Brooklynn Lustila, 8, loves frilly, girly things. But she likes all-terrain vehicles, too.
So when her dad spotted one of Polaris' new hot-pink kids' models recently at Diggers Polaris in Prior Lake, he snapped it up.
"It's really pink and really bright and it goes really fast," said Brooklynn, who also races motorcross bikes.
Brooklynn, who went home with a $2,399 machine, is one of the first to hop on Polaris Industry Incorporated's limited-edition "Pink Power" models -- the first ATVs targeted at females. Brooklynn's 90cc version, with a top speed of 30 mph, is recommended for kids above 12, but Leon Lustila said his daughter has outgrown her brother's 50cc ATV.
"She's been riding a four-wheeler since she was 3 or 4," Lustila said. They live on 10 acres with woods, trails and horses in Lydia. "She's quite the tomboy," he said. "But she's got dresses, too. A tomboy and a princess."
Polaris, which had ATV sales last year of $1.24 billion, is the country's largest maker of youth ATVs. It is making just 2,500 of the two pink youth models, the Predator 50 -- aimed at girls aged 6 and up -- and Predator 90, for girls aged 12 and up. It will build 750 of the adult pink ATV, the Phoenix 200.
