Hi all, new here and have a question.

I have been lookin' into buy a 700 Sporty and just cannot make up
my mind between EFI or Carb. I'm not real big on the color selections
that they leave for Carb models and I would really like the all weather
starting capability of the EFI. But, is it really worth the extra $6-700??

I have riddent a 700 Carb and a 500 EFI is all. Never had the chance to
ride a 700 EFI.

So what's everybody think??

I have an '04 700 Sportsman with a carb. Talked to those with the new fuel injected systems and they love them. I almost got the 05 fuel injected model instead when I bought mine, but was leary of a first year fuel injection system. Polaris hasn't seemed to have any big problems out of them though so I would probably go with fuel injection and spend the extra $700 if I were buying another one.

First of all let me say that I've been extemely happy with my '04 popo 700. I have put it through hell and it's like the energizer bunny.....LOL
Mine is the carb cause I got it right when they were coming out with the fuel injection system...however if I hadn't been leary of first year sytstems, I probably would have gone with the fuel injection...I really haven't had any problems, but I've always heard that the fuel injection systems can have less problems in the long run as well as easier to start in cold weather and no adjusting in different climate situations necessary as with carbs. I think that if the carbs were the way to go, then they never would have stopped putting them in regular vehicles right?...lol Hope this helps

Well, considering that I work as an Automotive technician I believe
that everything breaks. It's just a matter of time.

The 700 carb sporty I rode was a friend of mines 03. First year 700
and he has put his through hell, no doubt. It still runs very good, cold
blooded as hell but after it is warmed up it only stalled on my a few
times. That was because of the severe angles it was at while it was
sitting in mud holes while I ran out the winch cable to get it out.

Carb or EFI I don't think you can really loose. I may just have to save
the extra $$$ though for other things. We'll see when it comes time.

Anybody else??

I have carbed machines and EFI's (while not a Popo owner) I have owned the Rincon carbed and EFI.... and it all depends on what you want the machine for.

The carbed machines are easier to "tinker" with and tune out to produce more power.... but must be re-jetted to go into higher altitudes (and throttle response isn't quite as good) This is probably the best way to go if you intend to do alot of mud riding and water crossings with your machine.

EFI is the way to go if you do mostly trail riding.... Throttle response on these machines is FANTASTIC.. no re-jetting necessary for high-altitude riding... and no choke... the machines are tested to start in negative degree temperatures with little to no hesitation.

Once again, it all depends on what you intend to do with the machine..... and personal preference. I keep the Brute for mudding and showing off (LOL) and the Rincon for a fast trail-riding machine.

Good Luck with your decision,

Ride Safe,

Chuck

Been pretty darn cold here in NY last week or so. Had to test out the reliability of the EFI in cold weather. Pulled the cover off and it turned right over first try. I didnt ride it until it warmed up (been almost -15 to -20 with wind chill for several days), but seems to run fine.

I'm sure you're made a decision by now, but for anyone else looking for info, here's my two cents
