In the wake of the coal mining and timbering industries, Harlan County has an abundance of abandoned mountainous roads and trails we have formed into an off-roader's paradise. With the careful management of local government and the stewardship of our local clubs and citizens, our trails are kept clean and safe for riders of all skill levels.

As a bonus, our trails have a view to offer that is second to none, and the hospitality of our people will make the trip to Harlan County the best you'll ever take. Best of all, there's no charge to use our park, so we hope you'll load up your 4x4 or ATV and come ride with us.

8000+ acres, elevations up to 3300 ft, two trailheads

Location
Black Mountain Recreational Park is located in Harlan County, which can be found where US Highway 119 and US Highway 421 meet in southeastern Kentucky. The park is located approximately 8 miles east of the City of Harlan on the Black Mountain Range, which runs between US Highway 119 and Kentucky Highway 38.

The park can be accessed via the north by Putney Trailhead on US 421, or via the south by Bailey's Creek at the City of Evarts.
--------------------------------------------------------
Thanks to Stephen for sending me information on this Park. Looks like a great place to take the ATV's if you are in the area or planning a vacation.

Visited for spring break with sons back in April... were able to handle green and some blue on their 90cc atvs and had a blast...breathtaking views and even a place to rent a quad on the putney trailhead side! Was an amazing time saw all kinds of cool scenes and really felt a part of nature while riding and challenging ourselves and the kids (11 and 12) would reccommend to anyone. We are from flatish Indiana so it was nice to ride in a more mountainous area! Also stayed on the Evarts side above the gas station in a cabin and it was great as well! No complaints whatsoever!

So where are you guys all from, i live about 5-10 minutes from the trail head. Dont really ride up there much though usually go other spots because they are a lot less people there. However my wife has started riding some with me a bunch of us from church hav been going and taking our wives and been riding up there on the green trails. And it did get me a new 08 bf 750i, I have a honda rancher and my friends where blowing past us on just any little hills and my buddy has a bf so she wanted one no arguments here. Maybe we can ride some when you all come in pm me.
