Turkey Bay has approximately 100 miles of OHV trails which cover a variety of terrain, offering something for every skill level. Flat meadows, rolling hills, and rocky plateaus await the adventuresome!

The ridge tops and valleys provide beautiful vistas with challenging terrain.

With more than 200 miles of trails winding their way through rolling woodlands and along isolated shorelines, it is no wonder that Land Between the Lakes National Recreation Area is a magnet for outdoor trail enthusiasts of all types.

"Whether you like to hike, horseback ride, mountain bike ride, or ride an all-terrain vehicle, LBL has a trail for you," a LBL Recreation Team Leader said. "We offer something for just about everyone."

LBL's hiking trails are especially diverse and each trail network has its own distinctive features that showcase LBL's diversity and rugged beauty. Everyone from experienced backpackers to those wanting a short walk will find a trail that meets their needs. More extensive hiking networks include the 65-mile long North/South Trail; the Canal Loop, which provides options from 1.5 to 14.2 miles; and the 26-mile Fort Henry system, which traces the path of General Ulysses Grant's Union troops during the Civil War.

Shorter hiking trails wind through the Environmental Education Area near The Nature Station. These trails offer scenic beauty as well as educational opportunities. The longest is Honker Trail (4.5 miles), which covers such varied terrain as woodlands, meadows, and the lakeshore. Center Furnace Trail (.3 miles) is literally a walk through time, offering a glimpse of the region's role as a major iron producer in the early 19th century. Long Creek Trail (.2 miles) is handicapped accessible.

Mountain bikers challenge their skills on the LBL mountain bike trail system. Canal Loop offers some of the most exciting riding in the region and it has been the site of several National Off-Road Bicycle Association sanctioned events.

The northern portion of the North/South Trail is also open to mountain bike use providing 31 miles of trail that traverses ridge tops, bottomlands, and the shoreline of Kentucky Lake. Bikers can use connecting roads to make shorter loops and take advantage of terrain that varies from easy to expert.

Horseback riding is growing in popularity and LBL has become a center for trail riders with its 100 miles of riding trails. Wrangler's Campground has a reputation as the region's premier horse camp, attracting trail riders from around the country. Horse trails depart from the campground and cover a variety of terrain, from woods to the lakeshore. Many riding trails also pass by historic sites, such as the ruins of Laura Iron Furnace. A seven-mile section of the North/South Trail from Fords Bay Road south to The Trace is open to both horseback riding and hiking.

Another fast-growing sport is All-Terrain Vehicle riding. The 2,500-acre Turkey Bay Off-Highway Vehicle Area at LBL is the first federally designated area for ATV use and riders come from hundreds of miles away on a regular basis to enjoy riding on the varied and challenging terrain.

Turkey Bay riders can splash through mud and water or ride up and down hills and hollows. Turkey Bay also has an informal campground and many visitors make a weekend out of their ATV experience. I've never been riding here, I've been told not to waste my time with it, so I never did.
I also heard a rumor lately that alot, if not most, the trails are shut down... I dunno
Take your own chance, I also hear there are too many rules.
