I'm about to pull the trigger on a brand new 07 Rincon. It is my first ATV. My father owns one and I have ridden his some. I really like the speed and agility of this machine. It is a lot of fun to ride!
My question, however, is this. . .will I have much trouble duck hunting in flooded rice fields carrying 2 fat men, 1 fat dog, and 100 lbs. of gear since this machine has high gears and no low range?
My dad owned a rubicon prior to getting the rincon. When I drove his rubicon I would normally drop it into low gear going into the rice fields, since it can get a bit boggy in the field with a loaded ATV. It handled nicely in low range.
I will primarily be using this for duck hunting and joy riding during the summertime. Joy riding will be great on this machine, no doubt. I just wonder if I will be regretting my decision during duck season.
What are your thoughts here? Is the extra power of the 680 (versus the 500 rubicon) enough to make up any differences in not having the low gears?
if you dont put bigger than a 27" tire the rincon will do fine... they are alot funner to drive and will go thru alot more before getting stuck than a rubicon. my wife had a rincon and it was the best atv we've had.
i wouldnt put mudlites on it if i was gonna be duck hunting m/s589's would be the tire great in mud but stilla great tire to just ride around on but the rincon is great you shouldnt have any problems had mine for over 2 years and wouldnt take anything else
Time in the shop is something to consider. I've put 5000 miles on my Rincon and the only shop time was in the first month for a waterpump that was under warranty. I can't say enough good things about the Rincon. It's no where near the most powerfull big bore but I believe that's what saves alot of the parts. Snorkeled this thing swims like a fish. I've never had water in the motor and unlike most of the belt driven wheelers you never need worry about water in the tranny.
Thanks for the info guys! I did end up with the Rincon and I am loving it. Someone asked me a question though and I didn't know the answer. . .is this thing belt-driven or shaft drive?
its a auto traansmission , one area i would change because of possible water entering the motor area is called a mac guard ; hear is the info http://www.mudanddirt.com/tech/macsim/
oh yes but to be honest why would you need it , just carry a small jumper cables , I have a set and in two years never needed it , and before that I still have an older honda trx 300 which I did same thing due to water ability of possibly getting in engine, again this is a saftey caution ask your local Honda service department they will tell you many engines a get ruined every year, at least an honest one will.

alot of the guys I ride with have bigger and faster atvs, one of them always has to drain the trans or change oil because water is in the motor.I don't have those problems.Honda's may not be the fastest but will out last the other brands any day.
