| Can anyone tell me what the proper adjustment for my carb is on my 05 400 arctic cat. I have adjusted it and the pinging when you let off on the gas has stoped and know I can reverse up a hill with out it stalling on me. But I would like to know how much I need to turn it out from the full in position. And can anyone tell me how I may be able to hook up a snorkle on my bike. Bayou snorkels have kits for 500cc bikes, but I have seen 400cc with snorkles. thanks Tudball. | | | | Jul 12th, 06, 09:27 PM | | Super Moderator STAFF Join Date: Mar 2006 Location: Florida

| Yes. I think I have got it the bike is running great, but I would like to find the proper adjustment. The dealer in the town where I bought the bike, are about the worst around, I broke a rear axle, and it was not cover under warranty, the cv boot was fine no rips or holes. When I asked them the proper adjustment you know what they said bring it in we will have a look at it. My first service on the bike cost me 135 dollars (25 US Dollars HAHA ) for the 300 mile sevice and oil change, so I say screw going to them to adjust my fuel mix. | Servicing at a dealer can be quite expensive. Hell, changing fluids on the Polaris is expensive enough just doing it at home. | | | | Jul 13th, 06, 06:58 PM | | Mudpuddlin' Darlin' STAFF Join Date: Mar 2006 Location: AR

Your fuel screw should be turned out approx 2 to 2.5 turns. Screw it in all the way (VERY gently) making sure to count how many turns out it was for reference. Then, screw it out to 2.5 turns and try it. I believe around 2 turns out is the factory setting (should be able to verify from the owners manual). You can turn it in some if it will run better for you. Once it starts backfiring on deceleration, you'll know you went too far. Just do 1/4 turn increments. | | | | Jul 14th, 06, 09:36 AM | | Member Join Date: Jun 2006 Location: Redbridge Ontario Canada

| Thanks Mudtramp, thats where I set it. My owners manual says see dealer for problems, has no specs what so ever. Tudball | | | | Jul 14th, 06, 10:20 AM | | Mudpuddlin' Darlin' STAFF Join Date: Mar 2006 Location: AR

I was sure it would have listed it...that it s a pretty important piece of information!
Funny thought, how do the dealers know if the manufacturer doesn't list it in their manuals (I guess they all just train by word of mouth ) | | | | Jul 16th, 06, 12:48 PM | | Super Moderator STAFF Join Date: Mar 2006 Location: Florida

| The best way I have found to set your a/f mixture is to let the bike warm up.After it gets to operating temp, let the bike idle in neatrul.Hit the throttle wide open and see if it hesitates or bogs.If the bike bogs down, you are lean on your mixture.
Your a/f mixture only controls your throttle response and idling.Your needle controls your 1/4 thru 3/4 throttle.Your main jet controls your anything over 3/4 throttle of course.
If the bike was popping on decel it sounds like you could be rich. The popping you might be hearing is the unburnt fuel building up in your exhaust and igniting when it hits hot spots in your exhaust. Also check yopur float bowl adjustment,if your level is high it will give you a rich conditon also.
Anything else I can think of I will type down to try and help. When you set your a/f mixture, make sure you only seat the needle very lightly. After that you can start to count your turns out | | | | Jul 17th, 06, 08:01 AM | | Member Join Date: Jun 2006 Location: Redbridge Ontario Canada

| Thanks Scibner, thats what I did on the weekend, and is running great. I figured when I had it in for service, it was still cold out below zero, and they adjusted it for that. | | | | Jul 17th, 06, 08:25 AM | | Super Moderator STAFF Join Date: Mar 2006 Location: Florida
