Just added a temp gauge today. Was scared of overheating with the new engine.

Did your builder give you some details on what the correct operating temperature is? Does anyone know what stock operating temperatures are?

thanks,

Doogie

The temp should be the same as any other engine. I let it idle for about 10-15 minutes yesterday and it never got over 150. I was wanting to see when the fan came on.

more horsepower means more heat, its gotta go somewhere. I would guess if nominal is 150, really pullin' should be between 180-190 without any issues. so the fan came on at 150? that's barely warmed up.
thanks for sharin' the data.

No the fan doesn't come on at 150. The highest it got over the weekend was 210 one time. Mostly ran around 170-180. The light never came on. Don't know when it comes on.

thanks,

I have to quit reading your list of goodies on your posts, that's bad medicine. But a cool bike no doubt!

did you get water oil volt gauges? I know you said water. Those yamaha motors now that I think of it (used in specialty built formula typ cars, yammy R1 5valve) are good for 230 water and 250-260 oil --- that''s amsoil. One of my friends has one, only blew it up when the motor took in some chunks it shouldn't have.

I am still frustrated why that radiator has such small fins, mine still looks fine, but since I seriously got it full of mud, etc last ride, the fan comes on a bit more.

thanks much for shar'in----

Good ridingto you,

Doogie

Yeah mine is a water gauge. I hooked it up inline coming out of the motor going into the radiator. It is a pain to keep the rad clean, but is a must do.
