adjusting vavles question

hey guys i bought a cd manual for my 06 wolvy 450 it states 0.06mm-0.10mm for the intake vavle and 0.16mm-0.20mm for the exhaust vavle.now i bought a craftsman feeler gauge but i have a problem because the number on the gauge dont match my manuals specs the gauge has .006mm and i need 0.06 mm did i get the wrong feeler gauge?


the gauge blades states mm but i dont think its right

and what i dont understand is that on the back of the feeler gauge package it list inches and millimeter in this order

inch milli
.0015 .04
.002 .05
exc exc

but on the actual gaguge it has diffrent measurments whys this?

I wish I could help... but to be very honest I have never adjusted valve clearance on any ATV or dirtbike I've ever owned.

I've put 1200+ miles on em and never even tried. Sure I've heard of folks doing it... (or taking their machine in and paying to have it done) but never saw any difference between my machines and those who had it done.

Not saying you shouldn't maintain your machine to factory specs... but I wouldn't lose too much sleep over valve adjustment.

Scribner would be your best source for this sort of information.... but honestly I don't know anybody these days that adjusts valve clearance.

I'm going to say that that isn't actually .006mm, the writing could just be confusing and that is actuall .006 inch. Being a machinist I get to work with the small numbers quite often, the average human hair is .003 inch, which equals about .076 mm, I highly doubt that they could make a feeler gauge .006mm. I would say just use the ones that say .002 and .004 and you should be in the correct range.
