| Suggestions Please. A local Sherriff offered to put me in jail tonight.... go figure.
The neighbors behind me (yeah... the same jerks who perpetrated the fence thing) have two yellow labs who bark CONSTANTLY.
Tonight (at 11:30p.m.) I went to take our dog out to "potty" and they were just "GIVIN IT HELL". I had finally had ENOUGH!
I pointed my 10 million candlepower spotlight at the dogs (no effect) then at the house (no effect).
I yelled, I tried to calm the mutts... to no avail.
Brandy and I drove over to the house and knocked on the door (no answer)
So we came home and called the non-emergency number of the local sheriff's dept.
The Dispatcher was a HORSE'S ASS. She kept repeating that in unincorporated areas that there is no noise ordinance and that folks move out here so that they don't have to abide by city ordinances.
SO WHAT? They move out here and suddenly have the right to take away my right to a quiet and peaceful suburban home?
When the sherriff arrived I promptly asked him that if there was no noise ordinance to make her silence her barking dogs... then what was to stop me from renting a propane cannon (used to scare away birds) and shake the neighborhood every 5 minutes until she decided to shut the dogs up?
He then not-so-politely informed me that if I did so, that he would arrest me and put me in jail for "deviant behavior"
WTF????
Her dogs can bark all day and all night disturbing the entire neighborhood and I can do NOTHING about it??? Any suggestions? (besides thermonuclear warfare)?
I am infuriated.. I'm supposed to be at jury duty at 8:30a.m. and can't freggin sleep... it's damn near 3a.m. now.
I don't believe I'm being unfair in this situation. The entire neighborhood has commented about her dogs barking, she denies it "That's just dogs". They are shown NO attention, NO affection, and the bare MINIMUM for basic care. They are filthy, the owner refuses to pick up the waste, and half the time they are sitting in the very water bucket they are left to drink from.
I HATE animal owners like this... she's only out to breed them and make a buck off of them.
What the hell am I gonna do. Any advice or opinions are welcome. If I'm out of line on this, please tell me... but I honestly can't see how I could be.
Ride Safe,

| Can you get video or pics of the dogs and their surroundings? I think that you should call the aspca or human society. The dogs are probably hungry and starved for attention no less. Dogs don't bark constantly for no reason. | | | | Mar 21st, 07, 08:21 PM | | Beer Wagon Driver STAFF Join Date: Jan 2006 Location: DFW, Tx.

| LOL... naah.. if somebody broke into my house I couldn't hear gunshot.
The point is that we shouldn't have to deal with such things... and we CERTAINLY shouldn't be threatened with jail time when we're the ones who can no longer go outside or get a good night's sleep because of them.
I think I came up with a solution earlier.
About one more night like last night, and I am going to remove my fence. Yep, you heard me... she will come home and I will have taken down the chain link wire, opened my front gates, and waved so long to her two beloved (mistreated) all-night-barkers.
And since the fence is mine, and inside my property line... not only is there nothing that she can do... but the freakin idiot sherriff can't either. (If he did I'm sure the local news would love to hear about it).
So, this could be interesting.
I'm much cooler now than I was last night (although I've had NO sleep)... just alot of time to plot.

I completely agree 100%, these animals are barking for attention.. they bark at every single thing (including birds flying over a mile up). It's just like a child that cries over anything and everything... it's not because they're sad... it's because they expect attention when they raise a fuss.
I plan to take the digi cam out there tomm when I get home (before they do) and get some zoom pics of their area. (like I told scrib earlier) they have a 100'X100' fenced area... but they are tied up on 20-25' leads in the center of it and the only shelter they have is an old 18-wheeler cab scoop. | | | | Mar 21st, 07, 08:25 PM | | Super Moderator STAFF Join Date: Mar 2006 Location: Florida

| I am the king of K-9 control in my neighborhood. Just ask Slick. But I do like your idea of removing the fence. Maybe you should "FORGET" and leave a steak on the porch. At that point he tresspassing.
And please don't get me wrong, I love dogs. Behaved and obediant dogs. | | | | Mar 21st, 07, 10:10 PM | | Hi! STAFF Join Date: Jan 2006 Location: Lower Arkansas

| Put smelly things in their car. If that don't work, put smelly things in their A/C unit. If that don't work, A weekly punch in the nose will probably do wonders.
Or, I could drive to the fence on your Rhino and try to wear out the air horns. | | | | Mar 21st, 07, 10:30 PM | | Super Moderator STAFF Join Date: Mar 2006 Location: Florida

I liked the nyquil idea, my father-in-law suggested earlier to throw over a piece of sandwich bread or meat soaked in laxative. | | | | Mar 21st, 07, 11:07 PM | | Mudpuddlin' Darlin' STAFF Join Date: Mar 2006 Location: AR

| in louisiana we have a law stating if a dog shows his teeth/growls at a person/or is a threat to your person you have a right to defend yourself by taking action via gun, stick, etc...protect your person. i don't know where you are from, but there is always a way around everything. leave your fence open, find torn up property..claim self defense..make sure you cover your position though, some enforcment officers can be butts..especially if they have in their mind your the bad guy. call the human society if there is one where you reside..they can be great for this stuff.
dipatcher in sabine...im a nice one cept for the stupid people

We had yet another confrontation tonight... my wife had finally had her fill as well, and SCREAMED to the top of her lungs for the dogs to shut up (the owner was outside at the time and refused to do anything to quieten the animal).
I guess I'm just gonna have to find an attorney and pay him to write her a very carefully worded letter stating that I'll sue her if she doesn't find a way to shut 'em up. I'm not one of those "sue-happy" people and hate folks that are... but I don't know any other way... the law actually seems to be on her side.
It really is a pathetic situation.
and I HATE the phrase "that's just a dog for ya"
Take care of your animals and take care of that for which you've accepted (or volunteered) to be responsible for.... be it children, animals, or property.
Anywho... we'll keep givin it hell until something works. | | | | Mar 25th, 07, 08:43 PM | | Mudpuddlin' Darlin' STAFF Join Date: Mar 2006 Location: AR

| Have you tried suggesting some bark control collars. They are not as expensive as everyone thinks. Just a suggestion I know they don't seem to want to do anything about it, but if enough neighbors got together and went over to their house (all at once), it might have more of an impact. You guys can't be the only ones that it's annoying. | | | | Mar 25th, 07, 08:56 PM | | Beer Wagon Driver STAFF Join Date: Jan 2006 Location: DFW, Tx.

| I love the idea of a bark control collar... if I could only find a way to get her to put it around her neck so she would get shocked every time they barked.
To be truthful, most of the people in this neighborhood are gutless... and love it that I'm not afraid to tell people off for things so that they don't have to.
While I'm sick of being the only person in the neighborhood willing to do anything, I'm not going to let her be a nuisance just for that reason.
The landlord (slum-lord) of the two houses next door to me and across the street had some crappy tenants a year or so ago.. I tried to rally the neighborhood then to get rid of them, it was like pulling teeth. Everybody wanted to complain and wanted something done... but I was the only one with the jewels to say something.
Spoke to the woman's ex-husband this afternoon, even HE threatened to shoot them in the hour or so that he was here because of the stupid barking.
She knows it's annoying to everybody, and I actually believe she finds it entertaining that it upsets everyone else. | | | | Mar 25th, 07, 09:02 PM | | Senior Member Join Date: Jul 2006 Location: L.A. (Lower Alabama0

| Bark collars DON"T work. I had one on my Lab and she just barked louder. I think a little ticket from the aspca will do the trick. I like the airhorn idea. We live in a subdivision and my neighbor who is not part of it but uses our access move a hurricane wrecked house in behind hers. So for two Saturday mornings when they wanted to sleep in I cranked up Vinny and romped on the ole HMF for about 30 minutes back and forth, back and forth. Or I would wait until they were cooking out and do the same thing. It didn;t do anything about the house, but it made me feel better. Finally she fixed the house up. | | | | Mar 25th, 07, 09:38 PM | | Beer Wagon Driver STAFF Join Date: Jan 2006 Location: DFW, Tx.

| Just to give y'all a lil background on this person (not that I care if anybody thinks I'm a whiner of not):
This woman's ex-husband was so sick of her he bought her this house and property (cash-money) to dump her.
I've mowed three times this year already... now that her grass is nearly 2ft. tall (nearly as tall as the top of the hood of the riding lawnmower they were mowing it with.. the mower died about every 6 inches) she calls her EX husband to get it running and expected him to mow it for her.
The male lab (I found out from her EX this afternoon) has a tumor on one of his back legs and she refuses to take him to the vet to get it looked at. I think he has worms because he's always sitting in the water bucket and dragging his butt on the ground.. which is a common sign of worms).
It took this woman 18 months to get her mobile home underskirted (state law is 90 days.)
These are just a few examples of her irresponsibility.
To think this woman is allowed to raise a child in this country "ERKS" me. | | | | Mar 25th, 07, 11:28 PM | | Senior Member Join Date: Dec 2006 Location: Royse City, Texas

| If the dog is sick and she wont take it to the vet you DEFINITELY should call the humane society (even if the dog wasnt annoying). Why should the dog have to suffer because she is irresponsible? Thats horrible.
I think people like her should be beaten! | | | |
