Nebraska's 30th Jamboree - Off Highway group's jamboree draws record number of riders

COLUMBUS - The Nebraska Off Highway Vehicle Association held it's 30th Jamboree June 9-10 at the Headworks Park near Genoa.
A record 1,700 ATV and dirtbike riders were in attendance, up from 1,200 a year ago and 761 riders in 2005. Most of the riders hailed from Nebraska, Iowa, South Dakota, Kansas, and rider drove as far as Texas and Oklahoma.
Proceeds from the Jamborees are used to pay expenses involving the operation of six public ATV and dirtbike areas in Nebraska and to support local emergency community services in Genoa and Fullerton.
“In general, considering the huge attendance, the event was one of our most trouble-free and injury-free jamborees ever,” wrote Dan Nitzel, business manager and co-founder of the association. “In an effort to crackdown on alcohol use, the Nance County Sheriff's Department issued eight citations for minor in possession of alcohol. Four riders from Lincoln and Fremont were ticketed for violating the 11 p.m. curfew. No other arrests or citations were issued by the Sheriff's Department. The Genoa Rescue Squad and Fullerton Rescue Squad were asked to assist with one ambulance transport injury and to help with several minor injuries including bruises and cuts.”
The association donated $600 to the Genoa Rescue Squad and $600 to the Fullerton Rescue Squad in appreciation for their volunteer time at the event.
“It is our intention to promote the jamboree events as a family type activity,” Nitzel wrote. “The Nance County Sheriff's department provides their expertise to help keep attendees of the Jamborees under control, and they help patrol the area throughout the year. Without their help and involvement over the years, the riding park would not be possible today. Also thanks to the Nebraska State Patrol for helping patrol the area. We would also like to thank Alan Mohr for allowing jamboree participants to use his pasture for additional camping and parking.”
