2008 Mud Nationals

Is anyone planning on going to the Mud Nationals this year?

For location & directions visit Mud Creek Off Road Park

2008 Alcohol Policy - High Lifter ATV Mud Nationals

Policy on Lights
Quote:
Flashing Strobe Lights or Emergency Style Lights
Last year at Mud Nationals there were quite a few ATVs and RUVs (Rangers, Rhinos, and RZRs, etc) that had flashing strobe lights or other lights that look like law enforcement or emergency vehicles. They were common to the point that people began not to pay them any attention and there were times that the real police or EMTs could not get through crowds.
Therefore this year displaying flashing emergency style lights will not allowed by non-emergency personnel. You do not have to remove them, just leave them turned off while at Mud Nationals. Violators will be asked to disable these lights by removing bulbs or disconnecting wires or leaving the premises.
Cost
Quote:
  • Attendance Costs:
  • $25 per person
Children 6 & under get in free
  • $15 per ATV/UTV
  • $5 parking
  • $15 RVs with no hookup
(Contact Mud Creek Off-Road Park @ 903.586.6972 for more info)

I "want" to go, not sure if I will be able to or not though.

We will try to have some t-shirts and stickers made up for mudbog by then, in case anybody is interested and might want to show them off during the event.

I went to the Mud Nationals at Mud Creek in Jacksonville, TX last year and had a blast! Despite the fact that I got my 2-week-old four wheeler burried in a mud whole that was not visible, and I rolled the thing over myself on the hill by the mud bog. Of course, that happened on Saturday night after the free-style show during which I drank about a case of Bud Light. $hit happens. I'll be going again this year, but I'll warn anyone who doesn't already know: it gets REALLY crowded.

Oh, I can tell you right now that I will NOT be attending this event. After everything that I "HEARD" that happened last year. I also heard a rumor (THIS IS JUST HEARSAY AND JUST A RUMOR) that Highlifter will be making the 08 Mud Nat's alcohol free.

I can't say that I would blame anyone who doesn't want to attend this event. Not only is it crowded, but people get ignorant out there. At least, they did last year. The group I was with saw careflight come into the park 4 times on Friday night and we were only there for a few hours, and then 8 different times throughout the day on Saturday. It gets worse after dark.

Been hearing that this was coming, and honestly I am not surprised.

I don't think this was the right decision, but I guess it is easier to make an event wide policy rather than concentrate on removing the people who are actually causing the problem.

Going to be quite a few people not attending because of this, as well as quite a few people who will show up as they do every year, with even knowing this is a rule.

I have to be there. But I will be working the Arctic Cat Trailer and Racing in the Mud Bog. My drinking will be minimal anyway. I am just upset with the thought of them Policing some and not being able to police all because of the size of the event.

In all honesty, and without bashing something just to be bashing something, this most likely ends any chance of me wanting to attend this event in the future.

I have a big problem with laws/rules being made to handle a situation in the easiest way possible, rather than the right way. I think it is safe to say that the majority of people who drink while riding, do so responsibly, and those people will now have a rule affecting them for no reason.

If someone is riding around like an idiot at the park, they need to be kicked out, it is as simple as that. Doesn't matter if they are drinking or not. And make no mistake, there are idiots out there at these events who are completely sober. Instead, there will now be a rule that restricts harmless people like me who probably go no faster than 15-20 mph when I am the slightest bit intoxicated.

That said, this is their event, and they are 100% within their rights to make the rules as they see fit, and they will attract a group of people over time that fits within these rules.

I am guessing that if they enforce this though, you will be seeing much smaller turnouts for this event, and the eventual closing of this event.

I won't be returning to this event anyways... (as most of you already know)

I applaud their "consideration" in taking (a) step towards insuring the safety of those in attendance.

However, how about taking more than just one? How about taking some that might actually have a significant impact on the safety of the masses?

I've worked up a few suggestions... not necessarily in order of importance... just as they hit me.

1. Limit attendance - trying to fit 10,000 people onto 3,700 acres (most of that 10,000 is only occupying about 2,000 acres at any given time) is insane... and dangerous. (but it sure is profitable!)

2. Stop underage riding - children on big-bore high-performance machines that can't even reach the floorboards... now that's dangerous.

3. Minimum safe distance between campsites - If you walk into a crowded restaurant and set up camp blocking the exit... you'd be sucking around for a ticket. (This should be no different)

4. Speeding through the campsites - We all know NOBODY goes 5.00 mph through camp.... with that said... it's VERY easy to tell the difference between 5.00 mph and 30-40mph. Strict enforcement and a no tolerance policy would go a LONG ways to deterring this dangerous and potentially fatal behavior.

5. Major roads through park - Why (during an event of this size) are ATV's allowed on the major roads connecting campsites with the entrance/exits? This leads to insane traffic congestion, the potential for ATV/Auto accidents, and is unnecessary... during event weekends ATV's should be required to use alternate routes to keep entrance/exits less congested in case emergency vehicles need to enter/leave.

6. And as for this new alcohol policy - why are passengers not allowed to have an open container? Why would you allow alcohol at campsites, but not on the trails? (leaves it wide-open for folks to get dog drunk at camp and then hop on a big-bore and blast off)

I was told once that the reason that Honda never attended these sorts of rides was because they had nothing to do with any ride that didn't require helmets or that included alcohol.

Perhaps this is more about image than the safety of those in attendance? (Or possibly an attempt to attract the more safety-oriented manufacturer's into showing up at the event?)

If you ask me...... nevermind... you didn't ask me.

Just my $.06
