| I knew that I had heard a rumor about this back at the first of the year. I will be trully surprized if they do enforce this. | | | | Feb 27th, 08, 12:26 AM | | Hi! STAFF Join Date: Jan 2006 Location: Lower Arkansas

| you have some trails, quite a bit of mud, plenty places to break as many parts as you want to break.
Keep in mind though, if you are wanting to and get some good trail riding in, don't waste your time. It gets like downtown Los Angeles during rush hour on the trails due to the extremely high volume of people there. | | | | Mar 5th, 08, 09:34 AM | | Junior Member Join Date: Mar 2008 Location: Slidell, la.

| ya know. i've never been to anything like mud nationals before. but to be honest from vids and pics it really dosen't seem like it would be all that much fun. from what ya'll have been saying it seems to me i was right.
not to mention (i've said this before) it dosen't really look like mud. i mean just water pits. most of the quads are in 4x4 but it dosen't really matter cause yor poppin wheeles threw water. but this is just all my observation. correct me if i'm wrong | | | | Mar 6th, 08, 09:27 AM | | Junior Member Join Date: Mar 2008 Location: Slidell, la.

| Oh, there's plenty of mud @ Mud Creek in Jacksonville, TX. Make no doubts about it. However, there are a lot of water holes too. What sucks about it is that you really can't tell how deep any of them are unless you sit back and observe others going through first. I ran my two-week-old quad into a mud hole last year and sank the sucker up to my seat. Everything on my quad at that point was all factory, but luckily I went with the Suzuki, so I didn't tear anything up and was able to wench out of the hole with the help of two other large quads. The best part about the whole trip was the sitting back and drinking bear and watching other people do stupid stuff. Careflight was quite a regular site coming in and going out throughout both days that I was there. It was a great experience, and I'm glad I went, but I don't think I'll be back again this year. | | | | Mar 6th, 08, 08:19 PM | | Beer Wagon Driver STAFF Join Date: Jan 2006 Location: DFW, Tx.

May be a while before we can make another East Texas trip, even once I get the bikes fixed... the price of fuel is putting a damper on traveling any significant distance.
Maybe next year?
As it looks, I may not be able to go on another ride period until July 4th... between work and all the other variables to contend with. | | | | Mar 6th, 08, 09:50 PM | | Senior Member Join Date: Feb 2008 Location: Springfield, GA

I will be there with Mudders Mag and hanging around the Artic Cat trailer and I welcome anyone to come and ride with our group. I ride with Team ABS and we will all have Team ABS shirts on. I will be demoing a new Prowler from Artic Cat. If your looking for someone to ride with look us up and come on. The rules are not going to be that bad, I've talked to Highlifter and Mudcreek. They are just looking for fools. | | | | Mar 29th, 08, 05:31 PM | | Junior Member Join Date: Dec 2007

| OK, i have talked to the park ppl many times. DRINKING IS ALLOWD at Nats. YOU CAN NOT be drinkign on your quads. HOWEVER, you can stop, get off, get a beer out of your cooler, drink it, and get back on.
They are wanting to limit handed driving while riding due to the accidents last year with roll overs. They figured over half the rollers they had that involved injuries could have been prevented if both hands were on the handle bars to better steer.
They also are tryign to cut down on the number of "Drunken Idiots" those who seem to forget other ppl are in the park.
As long as you stay kool, dont be an @$$ or stupid you can drink. like they told me, there are not goign to to just go around harrassing ppl who are drinking just dont get out of hand. AND yes"You can have beer in your cooler on your quad" that came straight from them. | | | | Apr 13th, 08, 09:29 PM | | Senior Member Join Date: Feb 2008 Location: Springfield, GA

| Death at Mud Nats
Our condolences go out to the family and friends of the victim.
WHILE I have been a staunch opposer of HL over this free-for-all since 2005... this year's events are sad indeed.
My sincere hope is that if anything good could possibly come of this tragic situation, it is that the founders of this event will see past the $ signs and limit attendance to their events in the future rather than create ignorant rules that do nothing. Other than those rules meant to entice narrow-minded manufacturers to sponsor the event, instead of protecting the riders. Quote:
Cherokee County Sheriff James Campbell

Campbell also said he didn’t believe alcohol was a factor in the incident and that he didn’t detect alcohol on the victim.
Sad events such as this can happen any time you involve man and machine, all I can say is that it is truly a miracle that there haven't been more deaths due to this over-crowded event (my wife's wording... mine was MUCH stronger). | | | | May 5th, 08, 10:37 PM | | Senior Member Join Date: Feb 2008 Location: Springfield, GA

| i heard bout that days after. i didn't know if it was just a rumor or a joke. sad but from what i heard the guy was goin rather fast on a bike that shouldn't be going that fast anyway. sad but like crane said thinks like this will happen. especially if the person is not responisiblt enough or when alcohol is involved. prayers go out for the family and the one who pasted | | | | May 5th, 08, 10:50 PM | | Beer Wagon Driver STAFF Join Date: Jan 2006 Location: DFW, Tx.

| Let's not jump to conclusions....
From what I've heard (which is all hear-say (which is all anybody can claim to know))
The individual was NOT drunk.
My statements are not first-hand knowledge.. all I'm here to do is console the victim's family & friends... and hopefully bring about changes that might reduce the risk of such tragedies in the future. | | | | May 6th, 08, 06:50 AM | | Senior Member Join Date: Feb 2008 Location: Springfield, GA

| Sorry CottonMouth, I didn't mean to come across as scolding.
I'm just so sick to death of people blaming every accident on alcohol. (not that you were)
There's likely only one person who knows what truly happened, and he's no longer with us.
I just can't help thinking that if they had limited the attendance to even half that of the actual total (which would still be twice the number of people that property could safely accommodate) Then he would have had a 50-50% chance of survival?
Then again maybe not. We'll never know. | | | | |
