Sublimity — With the theme “An Award Winning Tradition,” the 34th annual Sublimity Harvest Festival opens Friday, Sept. 8, at the Harvest Festival grounds west of Salem. This is expected to be the largest event with six nationally recognized Monster Trucks and dozens of stock, super-stock and modified tractors and pickups, as well as ATVs and horses to compete inpulling competitions all weekend.
The Harvest Festival started 34 years ago as a small competition between area farmers, an informal affair with the audience creating the weight for the pulling sleds. It has grown to the largest truck and tractor pull competition in the state, with dozens of competitors in each class vying for prize money and trophies. The festival is organized and managed by the Harvest Festival Association, which continues to provide proceeds and opportunities to over a dozen area youth programs and groups.
The Harvest Festival opens at 5 p.m. Friday with a full schedule of multi-engine and modified tractors, modified four-wheel drives and country modified trucks, followed by a performance by the Monster Trucks and live music in the entertainment tent. The Friday night show will end with fireworks on the track. Monster Trucks competing this year include: Bounty Hunter, Iron Outlaw, Obsession, The Patriot, Captain USA and Tropical Thunder. At 9 p.m. Stephanie Michals will perform on the Roth’s stage. There are also a kid’s fun center, commercial booths and a food court with more than a dozen vendors.
