The most versatile sport ATV in the world with aluminum/steel hybrid chassis and fuel injection. - [Yamaha]

Key Features:
  • All new in 2006, the Raptor 700R was named ATV Illustrated’s “Sport ATV of the Year” in its rookie season (a tie with our own YFZ450).
  • Raptor 700R is designed to dominate in the widest range of riding environments, from tight woods to desert to dunes.
  • A 686cc Yamaha fuel-injected engine makes this the most powerful sport ATV ever, with big torque right off idle transitioning into a fat midrange and monstrous top end.
  • Yamaha fuel injection means consistently excellent engine performance in a wide range of conditions, elevations, and temperatures.
  • Hybrid steel and aluminum frame with a Controlled Fill aluminum subframe and cast swingarm pivot combine to produce a super-strong structure and the lightest ATV in its class.
  • Aggressive new styling reflects Raptor 700R’s intent and YFZ-inspired handling means it walks the walk too.
  • Long-travel suspension—9.1 inches front, 10.1 rear—a cush seat and excellent ergonomics make the Raptor 700R comfortable to ride hard all day long.
NEW FOR 2007:
  • New front brake master cylinder features an adjustable lever for increased comfort and feel.
  • New, drilled rear brake disc reduces unsprung weight for improved suspension action and excellent braking feel.

Is it truly the most versatile sport ATV out there? What kinds of terrain do you ride on and how does it handle?

Versatile, Oh yea. You can either lug it around or run it hard. The tourqe is incredible. Likes to be short shifted. We ride mostly woods/powerlines/tight twistes/railroad beds. It does ok in mud, makes it through. Have to be careful with 4in of ground clearance in rear. Handling is super. Just swing your hips...........

Great review

Do the 4" of ground clearance seem to present much of a problem?

My stock swing arm gaurd(plastic) was cracked after a few rides. Since I have put on pro armour gaurds to take the hits I can't avoid. The raptor handles so well I avoid most rocks/stumps. Just a litle differant technic, from stradling everything. My prior atv was a 99scambler 400 4x4...........

I mostly trail ride my 08 raptor and the only problem i have had is the poor mounting of the headlights. the inside bracket by the radiator is cheap. anyways it is crazy fast and with some guards in place there is no problems with the ground clearance, as the only time i got stuck was when going through some mud that the jeeps were stuck in LOL.

I love my 08 Raptor like most have said you can avoid the rocks and stumps the headlights are a bit of a pain but no biggie. Mudding is great the momentum you are able to gain before hitting the puddle propells you through with little problems.

Unless you bottom out then yeah the 4" rear clearance isn't the best but hey who doesn't get stuck from time to time?

I like it all around. I'm not a big ole' gal and I can handle it manuvering pretty well. It's a big improvement over the old Honda's I used to ride back in the day.
