Looking forward to my first ride soon. Just purchased the 800XT Camo. Have been riding a 03 Rincon. The Rincon does not have a transfer case(no low gearing) and descending a steep rock pile can be somewhat unnerving just using brakes...I always wear a helmet and protective gear when riding and don't create harm to the terrain. In fact, you would be hard pressed to find any tracks after I have visited the area. This new 800 will be great fun in the snow! Jerry, Shingletown
Hows the ride on these puppies? were looking into possibly talking my fiances parents into buying one just for nice quiet trail rides. I know theyre REALLY long. are they hard to maneuver through tight, winding trails??
I have owned Suzuki,Honda, and Yamaha ATV's and the 800 Can-Am is just as nimble as these brands. The only downside to this great ATV is the price...about $2000 to $3000 more than the competitors. After owning this one since October 2006,I have yet to ride in the snow(hillclimbing and boondocking), but it has so much power the "fun factor" makes the price worth it(my humble opinion). I agree....if you're having fun, then the price is always worth it
Do you get much snow if any in Shingletown? (That's northern CA right?)
With all of the research that I have done on this and a dozen other web pages, one of the biggest negative comments I've found is about the soft front shocks and springs. And that's for the Outlander 800, not even the max. ltd and throw in the winch weigh and were really screwed! They beefed up the Renegades shocks and it's 100 lbs lighter. So now I got to spend another $800 to get the proper shocks and springs to get premium performance and a safe ride. AND I THOUGHT BRP WAS BETTER THAN THAT! Live and learn, at my expense.....
My XT has very strong shocks/spring both front and rear and they are adjustable. You must have the two passenger model? I use a snow plow in the winter and the front-end handles the extra weight fine. I usually carry 5 lbs. of air in the front tires, but add another 2 lbs. when the snow plow is attached. The only items I would have added to the 800XT are heated grips/thumb warmer(I have added)and a handlebar lever front brake. The rest of the ATV is perfect. I have never ridden anything close to the power this 800 V-Twin produces. It also gets great fuel economy. Jerry, Shingletown,CA
P.S. Shingletown sets at 3500 feet, I live at 3700 feet and ususally will receive small amounts of snow. Last year we had close to 3 feet on the ground. This year we have nothing on the ground. The locals informed me that 1 foot on the ground during Dec. and Jan. is the norm. We have only lived here since Aug. 2005. I've been so busy on this place ,I haven't played in the snow yet(there is still plenty in the high country).
