Looking at tires that got great bite in the mud, while still wearing well.

The more aggressive you go with tires, the less fun riding that machine becomes. Sure, they'll perform outstanding in the mud and leave all them boys with stockers as spectators... but when you want to go into the woods THEY SUCK.

Large deep tread mud tires i.e. Mudzillas, Outlaws, Vampires, Gators are best suited for soft sand, deep mud, and water crossings... it is the purpose for which they were designed and will hold up dang near forever if that's all you do with them. The minute they hit pavement... they'll look like they've been run through a giant pencil sharpener.

Mid range Mud tires are becoming the latest craze in tires i.e. Mudlites, Mud Bugs, Blackwaters, ITP 589... etc. These tires offer a good grip in the mud while not being entirely too rough for other types of trails and riding. These tires also usually come with a little more affordable price tag.

Entry level (as I call them) tires can actually surprise you as to what they'll do i.e. Bighorn Radials, Rawhides, Spider Traks... etc. I've seen people who actually know how to ride take these smaller and less aggressive tires past folks with the big meats.

It all depends on what stile of riding you do... Ideally, get the monster meats... keep your stockers on the trailer... and buy a 12volt impact and a small floor jack so you can change em out at will.

Ride Safe,

Chuck

When I wear out my vamps (if ever) I'll probably go back to mudbugs. I had em on my Kodiak, and I loved em.

I seen some ITP mud tires a few days ago while in Lousiana searching for oil to put in my Polaris. 27", very aggressive looking (almost like zilla's), complate with some cool looking wheels.

Didn't have $900 in my pocket to spend though after buying front and rear bumpers for the wifes bike. Still cant believe I went to get an $8.00 quart of oil and ended up spending $300 bucks. I must have a sign on my back or something saying "show me something and I will buy it" when I am in a damn bike store.

If you want pure mud tires then the outlaws is the one to have.If you are going to run man made pits(mud bog competitions)then edl's are the tire.

Quite a few new members since this was posted.

What, in your opinion, is the best mud tire on the market? If you have responded in the past, have you changed your mind?

The gators have been good for me in the mud, snow and they even do good on gravel roads. The are wearing real well too. I have the dirt devils on my kodiak and they have been a good all around tire.

If you want a tire that has good wear and have good bite in the mud get 27in or 30in ITP mudlite's if you have the money.

I run the Mudbugs on my bike and love them. I have had them for almost a year and are showing very little signs of wearing down. I ride them everywhere from concrete to mudd and everything in between.

YES!!!!

Don't feel alone!!! My wife has 27" Blackwater XT's on her Foreman and LOVES them!

I truly believe they are the un-sung hero's of the ATV tire world. They ride wonderfully, they do moderately well in the mud, and they DON'T beat ya to death on the trails.

She needs 2 new fronts right now, I'll probly be purchasing em next year.

Mud Zillas and OutLaws are best for mud and mud only. I can think of several good all round tires but I will only mention 1: SwampLites. They are great trail tire and do pretty well in the mud too. Just stay off the sand as they will dig you four holes!

Swamp Witches. been havin em for about a month, and this past weekend i put them through major mud(sandy clay), and the only time i got stuck was cuz i high centered. i got 26's on my 350 rancher, wouldnt trade em for much right now. my vote is them. had mudlites on my old 400, but they were more of an all terrain, so i cant say they were a good mud tire

Well, I put 26x10-12 MudBugs on the Rancher Friday evening and found they don't seem to pull as well as the SwampLites in the thick black jack mud in the swamps.
I hope to have my MudZillas for this weekend!

I ran 589's on my rincon for about 3000 miles and they still had Tread when I got my outlaws. So I would say they wear very well. Other than that I was not impressed with them. I probably won't have many believers on this but I think my 29.5's ride as smooth as the 589's did. I just wish the laws were a bit lighter.

I have a set of 26inch gators and they are ok, I don't have anything to compare them to. I do have a set of 28inch mud bugs but don't want to beat in the floor board brackets so the tires don't rub. What else can I do to keep them from rubbing? Spacers, I don't really want to do either. So I'm SOL right?
