ITP vs. Maxxis

I have a 07 sportsman 500ho x2 and want to upgrade to new tires. I was looking at Itp xtr radials in 27" and Maxxis mudzilla in the same size. Also I was wondering about running a 14" rim instead of the 12, whats your likes and dislike and thoughts on the 14" rims?

Thanks all

Before you invest in Mudzillas... go test-ride somebody's machine that has em. I've got em and they're rough as hell, great in the mud... but they'll beat you to death on any surface other than soft sand or mud. These are strictly a mud tire and are absolutely useless on any other terrain.

As for the 14" rims, they do look good... but I prefer the 12" due to the huge number of tires already out there that are compatible with them. You might get 2 or 3 years down the road and run into a set of slightly used tires for next to nothing... and wish you had the right size wheels to run em.

Just my 2 cents.

Ride Safe,

Chuck

I have ridden Ccrane's bike and can confirm that the mudzillas will jar you guts right out of you.

Like said above the mudzillas are a mud tire, very heavy also.If you like to trail ride and play in a little mud then I would go with the ITP's.The 14's do look good but there isnt a big choice for tires out yet for them.

I thought the mudzilla's looked like a rough riding tire. I guess its the ITP xtr for me. Im just not sure if I will do the 14 inchers yet, probably wont as I already have the Polaris alum wheels on my ride. Thanks for the input guys.

I have never ridden on the Mudzilla's. But I just buy a set of the Maxxis MudBugs. Not quite as serious as the Mudzilla's but still pretty extreme. And they are not to bad on the hard surfaces.

i rode bignate's bruin last night for the first time with the mudbugs on it. i must say these are some pretty cool tires. light as a feather (i know because i took them off while installing the lift) and very smooth. there is a little wabble on the pavement but just enough to make you want to tear up some dirt real quick like.

ditto on the mudbugs...good smooth riding tire on the trail, not bad on asphalt/concrete, and pull like animals in the sand and mud!!!! Prices are nice too...

swamplight's

I bought the new Interco 27 inch swamplight's for my 800 X2 & my 500 X2 they are a 6 play rated tire but ride and handle like radial. The 12 inch rims will geve you more side wall flex for a better ride over the 14 inch rims. ATVPT ~ All Terrain Vehicle Product Tests ATV Technical Magazine

I have a set of dirt devil xt(larger lugs than the old ones) and they ride very smooth. Big lugs really pull too. Not as much as Outlaws or Zillas, but the ride is great. Better than stock. Look pretty good also.

I know they outperform the mudlight xts in the mud. Pretty aggresive tread for such a smooth ride.
