New after market Carlisle

Just replaced OEM 26X8 fronts and 26X10 rear Carlisle ACT radials on my Outty 800. Bought a set of Carlisle 6 ply ACT X/LR radials 27X9 fronts and 27x11 rears from Tires Unlimited for a good price and received them within two days of placing my order. Cost me $401 including shipping charges and $44 bucks xtra to get them mounted and balanced. Just rode them around the house a couple of times but my first impression is that they will ride harder, definitely raised the height of the bike, and had minimal sidewall flex when making a sharp turn. Tread pattern is same as factory. Tire is designed as all purpose but primarily trail riding.
Had to replace the first set due to sidewall punctured on the trail by a stick. Original set I believe was only 2 or 3 ply, and had considerable sidewall flex. As soon as I get a chance to put them through a good workout I'll give you my hard riding impressions.

Sounds great. What kind of wheels did you get for them?

Stayed with the factory aluminum wheels. Lighter weight, and I don't have to worry about scratching or bruising expensive wheels on rock and mud trails. Also, I did not want after market wheel offset which make the tires stick outside the fenders by 2-3". This is tough on bike, wheels, and tires when driving narrow trails flanked by trees or boulders. I get through more trails than my buddies who have to back up and go around obstacles, because of their big 12" wide tires and wide offset wheel kits, not to mention the occasional broken U-Joint.
As you can tell, I'm not a die hard mudder who goes looking for the mud pits every time I ride. I've been there, and done that (1996 Grizzly ITP Wheels and 27x12" Blackwaters, 2003 Grizzly 27x12" Goodyear Mudrunners on ITP wheels.) Now I like to do more riding than winching, washing and cleaning. My current ride gives me what I think is the best of both worlds, and when I do get the "urge to merge" 800cc's of power in a relatively light weight machine, usually is more than enough to get me in, out and through the mud if I do my part and drive it aggressively.

The 6 ply tires should handle the alligator bites as well.

ROFL... Carlisles are awesome tires.

I had a set of Trax Max (25") on my 1999 Foreman for a while, the sidewalls were so tough you could stand on em before they were mounted on wheels and they wouldn't budge.

They should last a long time... enjoy em.

Ride Safe,

Chuck
