wheel offset/ backspaceing ?

i've been looking at wheels for the timberwolf i got a sweet deal on some itp c type 5 for the front, i'm looking for a matching pair for the rear and i've noticed different sites will show 2+5 and others 2-5 is this the same 2+5 = 2-5 or is it 2+5=5-2? i'm confused. i thought the first # was inside rim measurement and second # was the outside measurement.

The first number is the back spacing. 2-5 would be a deep dish wheel for a straight axle atv.
