i've got a big bear 400 08 irs model too. i stil run the stock mudlites and they do great except for the lack of reverse traction and self cleaning ability. i'm lookin at either mud bugs, mudlite XLs, maxxiz zillas (not the mudzilla), vampires, and possibly 589s

I've got the 26" Maxxis Zilla's on my 08 Big Bear and I haven't got stuck in the mud yet. They clean out very well and have excellent forward and reverse traction, also very lite.

i assume 7x14 rim i would say 27" or 28" to give you more rubber for a better ride. IMO 14" rims are too much rim for a 25" or 26" tire.

Cool! If wanting a good 27 inch Mud only tire I would go with the Gorilla Silverback but there Pricey. If not I really like the Vampires.

What ever you buy, just make sure its not more that your ATV can handle. My buddy just put 27" Outlaws 9 or 10" wide on his 420 and they did pretty good. However, he has a HMF and a programmer on his. In the deep thick stuff, it does bog down. I think it would be too much if he did not have those power add-ons.
Bigger is not always better. I would rather go with something lighter and less aggressive, than something heavier and very aggressive and not be able to spin them and clean them. Just my opinion.

i agree. now unless you got the big bike to turn them like a grizz 700 or thundercat. but still even then i'd go with something smaller and less agressive

cottonmouth, I sho nuff agree wif you. Grizz 700, Thundercat or even Brute 750... heck the 650 is bad too or the Can-am 800 or 800 Polaris. They are all bad to the bone and there will always be someone who has had problems with one or the other. Kinda like choosing a Chevy, Ford, Dodge, Toyota or a Nissan..... its what you've grown to love or grown up with. I love Hondas, but you couldn't give me a 680. No offense to anyone who owns one. Just a personal preference and what I've experienced riding with them.

ya know. them bigger quads got alot of power and are probably built a little tougher but what most folks underestimate is that increase of weight.
picture this, your in the mud and got a big bore that can turn 27s with no prob but it's increased weight sinks it lower and you get just as far as the smaller models.
like i've said, by no means is my quad the best but rarely am i out bogged by someone else unless they got big lifts and larger tires. why do so many off roaders pick pick ups and lighter weighting jeeps and izuzu troopers over suburbans and other tanks on four wheels for boggin? just a my opinon and thought

That is a good point. Thats why, for the most part, my little 2wd 350 Rancher can go where the big 4wd's can go. Also, If I get stuck its a lot easier to get me out. I just wish I had 500 or bigger in my Rancher... that would be bad. Eewwww, even a v-twin. Ok, Ok... I gots to stop. Oh my goodness, I almost had one. Mane, I gots to find me a cigarette or somefin and I dont even smoke. lol!

So yall don't think a bear can adequately spin 27" heavy duty mud tires? If that's the case I would say go with the maxxis zillas. I've heard nothing but good about them.

big ear mudman, zilla's are said to be the lightest tire on the market..."so far". I have heard pretty good things about them. A friend of mine just put some on his 500 Rubicon. Hard to say how they do, because he rides like a girl. (I know I'm gonna get it from the female folks if theres any listening.) (I mean a girly girl)
I'd surely think twice about 27" Outlaws, Mudzillas, or any heavy tire for that matter. Like I said in an earlier post... My buddy has 27 Outlaws on his 420 with a programmer and a pipe and when he gets into thick mud, it bogs down pretty good.
If I went out right now and bought a 400 Big Bear, I would go buy me some Mudtrax 26X11-12 for the rear(i would buy 12 wide, but they dont make'em) and I would buy a more narrow tire for the front and go. They stand an inch taller than my 26X12-12 Outlaws. These tires are very impressive!!

also looking at tires for my 07 big bear, thinking on 26 or 27 swamplites, maybe 589's. really not sure how well it would pull 4x 27' 589's in the thick stuff. maybe swamplites are lighter??

stucklites.... I mean swamplites are lighter. I do not likes them because they wear extremely fast and they do more spinning in the mud than gripping the mud. Good trail tire and rides good, but again they wear too fast. If you have deep pockets and can afford to replace them regularly, then you may like them. I'd buy a Mudtrax or a Zilla or even a MudGear before buying a Swamplite. Just my opinion.
Zilla's are said to be the lightest tire on the market. My buddy said they were several lbs lighter than his Mudlites.

I AGREE WITH JAPLEASANTS, I HAVE 27" SWAMPLIGHTS ON MY BRUTEFORCE, THERE A GREAT RIDE ON A HARD SURFACE BUT THEY AREN'T VERY GOOD IN THE MUD OR LOOSE SAND UNLESS YOU CAN KEEP YOUR SPEED UP.
