Well we did it. We bought a 1991 ford ranger. Only costs us $300. Motor blown in it. Now I know its just a little fart. But its gonna be our starter truck. Gonna put a regular stock motor back in it probally. Its 4wd so we will put a slight body lift on it just to get bigger tires . I know it isnt much but for me as i am just learning it will be a great practice truck . If anyone is familair with the tear down and reinstaling of a ford motor we ar eall ears. We bought a book and i cant wait to get started on it.
nah not bad at all thanks. only costs us $300 now the motor i have been told is gonna run us close to $1800 ne one know a site that might be cheaper? hubby wants a rebuilt motor not a used one
i got a 4.3 from a auto recycler for $650 it came with everything that was bolted to the front of the motor and they give me a one year warranty did not need it though, it lasted 2 years of hard offroad abuse
yeah i know 1800 is a bit much dont know what we are gonna do unless we start calling junk yards makes me sick to think of spending that much i want it running by feburary
$1800 is about the going price for a rebuilt v-6. A wrecking yard will be cheaper if there is a reputable wrecking yard around. Gotta be careful with them though, because some of them are major rip-offs.
Nothing sucks like putting a greasy, dirty motor in, and finding out it knocks when you are done.

even a rebuilt engine could knock, if you go to a good wreck yard they will gaurantee that their motor is good if it is bad get your money back, i gambled like that 6 different times never got a bad motor , remember it's for a mud toy that could possibly drown the first time out
do you know for sure that all else on the truck is good, tranny ,t-case, front and rear end , it would be bad to put $1800 in a motor and have a bad tranny or tcase or diff. could easily put $5000+ in a truck if you are unsure of the rest of the drivetrain, from a past project of mine i got a jeep for 400 it had a blown motor got a motor for 450 installed it to find the tranny had a cracked housing pulled the motor got a tranny for 450 installed both to find the t-case wouldn't shift rebuilt it for 200, then got a master cyl. the brakes didn't work 150, first time out playin in it busted the rear end pinion yoke as the driveshaft came loose at 20mph it snaped the tailshaft on the t-case cost 500 to fix all that $2150 just get it runnin, then good plugs-wires, coil, dist. cap & rotor and all the fluids price up to $2500 then tires and wheels $1500 suspension $1000 for a grand total of $5000 and i did all the work myself ( well with the help of a good freind from time to time) and i have a freind that owns a jeep graveyard, so i think i got some deals on the parts. just be aware of what you could run into $$$$ i sure hope you don't have the same problems as i had, the $5k in mine is well worth the enjoyment i've gotten out of it
no i dont know for sure. Guess we will find out once we pull the motor and the rear seal. havent worked on it much. hubby had a few other projects that he needed to finish before we started in on the truck whole hog. hopefully this weekend we will get crackin on it
