Sometimes presenting grant funds to community organizations can be downright fun! Such was the case on Sunday, June 14, when I presented a cheque for $500 to Bruce Donnelly, vice-president of the Clearwater ATV Club.
I was invited out for a club ride with the Foghorn Cabin as the destination. Alas, due to snow levels near our destination we did not make it to the cabin but did have a great time. We did winch ourselves through a few snowbanks but eventually were forced to turn back.
All agreed that the highlight of the day was when yours truly was stuck on the trail and winching forward in about a foot of snow and slush. Unbeknownst to me, Ted Bryce, who was still parked behind me, was the recipient of large amounts of slush that shot out from my tires and up into the air landing in his lap. We all had a good laugh and carried on with our ride.
Shortly after that we headed across the mountain on a different trail, stopped for lunch then headed back down the mountain. The club will use the funds to complete formal registration as a not for profit society as well as host a few family oriented events throughout the year. Family events will be advertised in the Clearwater Times.
All ATV users are encouraged to join the local club.
Benefits include access to liability insurance at a reasonable cost.
The insurance coverage is required in order to legally travel on local logging roads and crown lands where permitted. Memberships can be purchased at Aspen Auto Parts in Clearwater.
