Meeting for the future of St Anthony Sand Dunes -ATV's on city streets? (IDAHO)

Reporter: Kristi Henderson
Monday March 5, 2007

A well kept secret is getting out -- the Saint Anthony sand dunes are a good place to play.

This week Fremont County officials want to hear ideas from the community about how the town can lure visitors into local businesses.

Kristi Henderson has more.

Cathy Koon, Fremont Co. Economic Development Specialist: "Most of those visitors to the dunes don't realize St. Anthony even exists."

And that's the reason for Tuesday's town meeting, a brainstorming session for ideas on how to bring visitors from the St. Anthony sand dunes into town.

"We're looking for ideas. We want the entire community to get involved with planning for the future."

Turning the sand dunes into a money maker for local businesses.

"We can improve St. Anthony, maybe add some businesses, grow some businesses and have a profitable economy."

Many ideas are already scheduled to be discussed at the town meeting, including allowing ATV's on some city streets.

"We're hoping that we can open up an ATV trail they can come into town and on certain city streets they'll be able to get around town and do some shopping."

And having more merchants open their doors on Sundays.

"What we're asking for is for business' to be open when people want to shop. If we want to be a tourist town, businesses have to be open when people are coming through town."

Not only agenda topics, but also those concerning the community.

"Lots of different topics, and people can bring their own topics. This is going to be a give and take kind of meeting, it's a town meeting it's for the town, it's for everybody."

Giving those who live in the town an opportunity to share their ideas.

"This is for the citizenry of St. Anthony to have their say in their future."

Hoping to organize and act now to build a better tomorrow.

The town meeting will be held this Tuesday at 7:00 p-m in the Roxy Theater in downtown Saint Anthony.

Everyone in the community is invited to attend.

If anyone is around this area, it sounds like this would be the meeting to be at and voice your opinion
