An avid ATV rider and president of the Black Diamond ATV Club, Kowalski said the easiest way to keep riders off state game lands, public roads and private property is to give them a designated area to ride legally. The perfect location exists in the abandoned mine land areas in Newport Township, an area suitable for trails and facilities, according to a recent study.
“If riders had a local place to ride for a nominal fee, they would go,” Kowalski said. “Right now, they’re just taking a risk.”
