What do you take along with you for big rides? I dont mean on the bike with you, but what do you take along with you in the toolbox as far as basic tools, fluids, and for some of the extemists, spare parts?

If NASCAR drivers can have a rear axle replaced during a race, we should be able to basically rebuild our bikes out by our trailer, right?

What do you take, if anything, and given the available funds, what would you ultimately like to be able to take with you?

last time i rode i took a ratchet with my lugnut fitting on there ( to check diff fluids , change tires , and um whatever else it was used for , maybe for throwing or leaving in the mud , which happened but i went and found it)

now if i was sleeping in a bed full of money ? id have a complete ware house built for me wherever i was planning on going riding , everything id need to replace any part . and also , when we leave , i would just torch the place

I have a toobox mounted my ATV trailer (I call it an atv trailer because that is all I use it for )

In it I carry basic wrenches, sockets, screwdrivers (the basica handtools). Also keep brake fluid and oil in the box, hand towels, hand cleaner, extra straps, extra cheap flashlight and whatever else I decide to throw in at the last minute before leaving. I am gradually trying to inventory it out better and plan on using it for some basic parts such as filters, spark plugs , just minor things like that.

breaking things is what its all about. Would love to have an enclosed cargo trailer and take my Snap-On box and all my tools with me. Would need to upgrade to a bigger truck to do that though.

ROFLMAO... THIS MAY TAKE A WHILE.

In the front toolbox on my gooseneck:
Shovel, collapsable rake, axe, tree pruners, come along, telephone pole anchor, dual 500 watt halogen lights on stand, single 500 watt halogen on stand, citronella oil for tiki torches, collapsable chairs, propane torch, and a few other lil goodies

In one underside tool box on the goose:
A milk crate in which all my straps stay, spring loaded clips (for holding tarps in place around camp or hanging clothes out to dry), bungee cords, toilet paper, goggles, used oil (for gettin the odd wet campfire going), citronella candles, trash bags, wasp and hornet spray, OFF spray, sevin dust, hacksaw, one of those funky things ya drive up onto to change a tire, and a string of clear christmas lights (they give a nice dim light to a campsite at night while not attractin too many bugs).

In the other under side toolbox on the goose:
A milkcrate full of small extension cords and adapters/multipliers, 3 large heavy duty extension cords, 1 case of pennzoil 10W-40 for flushing a motor if you swamp it, 1 bottle of rubbing alchohol (aids in flushing swamped motors), 1 bottle of diesel (aids in flushing swamped diffs), 6 quarts of pennzoil HD30 (for generators), 6 quarts of Honda GN4 10W-40 for putting good oil back in after flushes or for oil changes, 2 bottles of Honda differential fluid, 1 bottle of Kawasaki differential fluid, 1 bottle of Kawasaki wet brake fluid, 1 can of foam filter spray, 1 can of chain lubricant, 1 can of intake cleaner, spare O-rings for different applications, 1 can of brake and parts cleaner, K&N filter charge kit, WD-40, 3-in-1 oil, Grease gun, oil drain pan, empty 5 quart bottle for draining used oil into, funnels, gas can rebuild kit, tire plug/patch kit, JB Weld, bailing wire, duct tape, black duct tape, electrical tape, spare winch cable, water can rebuild kit, spare spark plugs for all bikes/generators, spare generator air filter, 2 spare oil filters for every bike, rope caulking, black sharpie marker, silver sharpie marker, brake fluid, diesel oil, anti-freeze, Gojo Hand Cleaner, Green Slime for tires, clamp-light, extra light bulbs, zip ties, 4ft. length of 10 guage romex (for heavier ties), hot-dog cooking sticks, nylon twine, and i'm sure there's a few things i'm forgetting but thats the bulk of it. Also keep all owner's manuals to every bike/generator in a vaccum sealed bag, spare Brute belt, and a small plastic storehouse of nuts/bolts/anchors/screws/rivets/wirenuts/tacks... etc.

I also have a bar-b-q pit that slides out from under the side of the trailer... i keep cooking utensiles, foil, pam cooking spray, lighter, charcoal lighter fluid, and a small pan in there as well... LOL

This trailer weighs over 5000 lbs. before I even put bikes on it... now you know why...LOL

One truck tool box:
Electric impact wrench, high capacity water pump, hoses, high capacity battery charger, 12volt drill (cheapie), 2 man tent, 3 man tent, angle grinder, 100ft. 10 guage ext. cord, extra pair of boots, propane heater head (mounts to the top of a propane bottle) and a few other lil things.

Other truck tool box:
Tire press guage, hammer, pliers, wire strippers, wire cutters, channel locks, vice grips, utility knife, jumper cables, 4-way lug wrench, battery powered lantern, several extra sets of clothes, towells, bottled water, pocket warmers, helmet, bungee cords, hunting knives, etc.

On every trip I carry a large portable tool chest full of sockets, wrenches, ohmeters, pliers, screwdrivers, breakovers, the works.. I also carry a 1.5HP 2 gallon air compressor with a 50 ft. hose and blowgun/airchuck, my Hobart wire feed welder, auto-darkening helmet, chipping hammer, my Porter cable 1/2" drill/saw combo, 10 Million Candlepower Rechargable Spotlight, and a few other goodies.

As I'm sure y'all can see I'm the idiot who takes every freakin thing I own when I go camping... but, as Mike can tell you.... I've seen times when I needed every bit of it. And sometimes I think I should post a big ass red cross on the side of our trailer cause everybody comes to us when they need something...LOL

Oh yeah... I keep a fully stocked first aid kit on the truck as well

Almost forgot what I keep in the truck itself: More toilet paper, camel backpack, plastic cups (for pouring beer into at parks that don't allow glass containers), pair of logging gloves, pair of waterproof gloves, and usually a .45 ACP (sometimes two).

Crane carries a portable house that he calls a trailer. Complete with a kitchen built on the side, front porch swing mounted under the gooseneck, 1 million gallon water capacity complete with well pump.

All he needs is a red cross painted on top of the bed for the careflight helicopters to see when they are landing.

Not when I look at pictures of your BF. It's understandable for them to break.

Funniest memory I have of Mudnats is when we were making our way down the powerline at MudCreek.. The entire family was riding along and we reached a point where we couldnt go any farther... we sat there watching others try to make it. I tried to make it several directions, and ultimately backed out of the deep ruts in fear of breaking something.

Mike and I were standing there as a "hot-shot" kid decided to shoot his mouth off and blow past me talkin shit. He got about 5ft. past the point where I stopped and backed out.... and SNAP there went his axle!

His head was hangin lower than a beaver's basement as my father-in-law went and towed his big ass back out of the mess in a Foreman 450...LOL

You NEVER know what you might need out there.... Go prepared... or Go Home!

For longer rides im always sure to bring a couple things: a map of the trail (if I can get my hands on a good one), a good rope and other than the basic/essential tools and straps, a tree saver strap if I need to pull my quad out of somewhere because it's a stronger strap than most. I hope that helps,

cheers,

Les
