Had a great ride Saturday (except for a cut tire), at Interlake in Southern Indiana near Spurgeon. Hills, woods, mud, lakes, all the atv's, jeep offroads, custom bilt offroad vehicles, and dirt bikes were all there, plus a great group of people - about 300. Toys for tots was the cause and a new toy was your ticket into the grounds. Great ride, has to be one of the best riding areas in the midwest.

Area is under reclamation from coal mining and not presently open for general public use. It was only opened for this charitable ride. It is owned by the state. I keep hearing it will open for public use in about a year. Twenty eight acres being reclaimed while 5000 acres remain unavailable. It is costing the local economy about 150 jobs which cater to outdoor offroad riders. Same ole beauratic political bs. I believe Midwest trail riders coordinated this event.

I am having a clueless moment here.

What do you mean by being under reclamation?

State is attempting to fix the damage done by strip mining the area for coal. Reclamation means they are filling in holes, fixing drainage, correcting erosion, reseeding praries, etc. etc. etc. Generally beautifying the landscape for public use. But as with any state agency, it takes forever to get it completed. I use to ride this area 3yrs ago until the state closed it off to offroaders. Their excuse was land reclamation.

Sounds about right. Would be better to just leave it alone and leave it as it is. Save lots of money, and it will eventually go back to the way it used to be.
