Doh! Security plan fails to protect ATV (Iowa)
December 26, 2006
The security idea had merit, but there was a problem with the execution.
Barbara Norton had an all-terrain vehicle stored in a shed in the 2200
block of Logan Avenue in Des Moines.
Police said she parked a car in front of the shed so the bumper was nearly
touching the shed's doors. The idea was that with the car parked there no one could pry open the shed doors and steal the ATV.
There was one tiny flaw in that security plan, however.
Officers noted in a theft report filed on Monday afternoon that thieves climbed into the unlocked car and backed it up far enough to get the ATV out of the shed. Investigators noted signs of forced entry.
The yellow Honda ATV is valued at $4,000.
