Dirt Track Race at the OK Corral Indoor Arena Jan 6th 2007 (Oklahoma)
January 3, 2007
Hope Robinson, a 9-year-old rider from Chandler, will be among 100 other contestants at this Saturday’s Dirt Track races held indoors at the OK Corral Indoor Arena, 20450 S.E. 29th Street in Harrah.
This will be round No. 3 of the AMP Outlaw Winter Nationals - Indoor Points Series. Robinson, who earned the Horizon Award for the series in 2006 was also High Points Champion in two divisions in the series. Hope does not ride in a “Powder Puff” class, one that is especially made for female contestants. Instead, she races against the boys in a heads up contest of speed, agility and skill. Robinson races a specially prepared Honda motorcycle.
Robinson is not the only young racer in the series. Mustang’s Austin Medrano leads the points in two divisions. Medrano leads the 125/250 class and has a perfect score in the 85 class by winning every round of the series this season. Medrano who won last year’s Five State Championship, the Curley Sutton Memorial Race, and last season’s AMP Outlaw Winter Nationals series will be defending his title Saturday in Harrah.
Racing action takes place Saturday. Four divisions of vehicles will be racing on the dirt oval track indoors for cash and awards. Those include Hot Rod Mowers; ATV 4-Wheelers; Dirt Karts and Motorcycles. One of the largest classes is the new Xtreme Lites.
Past American Motorcyclists Association AMA 125 Motocross Champion Guy Cooper, Stillwater, Oklahoma won the race held last year at the OK Corral. Cooper beat out 30 other contenders for the win at the OK Corral Dec. 17.
Tickets are available at the gate the day of the show. Adults are $15 with children at $7. Organizers remind race fans to dress warm. Information may be found online at AMP Outlaw Winter Nationals - Indoor Dirt Track Races or by phone at 918-902-5786.
Gates open at 4 p.m. Practice starts at 5:30 p.m. Opening Ceremonies start at 7:30pm.
