Armstrong County gets kick out of donated Kawasaki Mule ATV (Pennsylvania)

KITTANNING -- It won't take Armstrong County Emergency Management bushels of oats to feed this mule -- and it doesn't kick or bray.
EMA's new mule is a Kawasaki Mule 3010, a four-wheel drive all-terrain vehicle (ATV) that seats 4 and carries a one-half ton load with ease.
The Mule was donated to the county by Kawasaki Motor Sports through Stiller Motorsports 13488 Route 422. in Manor Township.
Owner Steve Stiller said a limited Kawasaki program enables county governments to use a Mule free of cost for six months on a loaner program. At the end of the six-month period, the Mule is returned to the dealership and the respective county is given a new one. Receiving agencies provide routine maintenance but otherwise are not charged for the vehicle's use.
Stiller said that only 50 units a year are made available across the nation to government agencies and Armstrong County was chosen at random to be a recipient.
"It's a great opportunity and this vehicle will prove a valuable asset to EMA in the event of any emergency," said County Commissioner James Scahill.
"We can use this in any emergency," EMA manager Randy Brozenick said. "It can be used in search and rescue operations or to transport emergency personnel to areas that cannot be reached by a regular vehicle. It's potential is virtually unlimited."
Stiller said the Mule will go anywhere a standard ATV will go. Although it is limited to a top speed of 25 mph but its capability to carry passengers and equipment make it more versatile than a standard ATV.
