Cogswell Motors and Can-Am ATV’s have teamed up to provide Pope County EMS and Pope County EMS Rescue with a Can-Am 800 Max XT all-terrain vehicle through Can-Am’s dealer loaner program. Cogswell Motors is the local Can-Am dealership.
The ATV will be used during rough-terrain rescue operations as a support vehicle. It will also be used at public events such as the Tri Peaks bicycle races, Pope County Fair and other events where off-road capabilities are needed.
Pope County EMS Rescue provides technical rescue services in Pope County. Due to the proximity of the national forest, rough-terrain rescues account for approximately 10 percent of the annual call volume for the rescue unit. Access to most of these calls requires off-road / ATV capabilities.
EMS Rescue uses a Kawasaki Mule ATV to transport patients from accident scenes to a waiting ambulance or medical helicopter. The Can-Am ATV will enhance the capabilities of the rescue team by providing additional off-road capabilities to transport personnel and medical equipment. The ATV will also allow rescue personnel to search for helicopter landing zones to shorten distances that a patient must be transported to reach the next level of care.
Pope County EMS and EMS Rescue thanked Can-Am ATV and Cogswell Motors for adding to their rescue operation and helped provide a faster, more efficient way of getting accident victims the help they need.
