Which truck in your opinion is the most overall versatile truck (this would include driving to work, pulling your ATV's, going to the lake, running errands, etc...)?
I will add a vote to Ford, they got the history behind them to handle the work, and they are also one of the smoother riding trucks on the market, at least in the half ton size.
My second choice, as much as it pains me to admit it, would probably be Toyota. Working in the dealership industy on the service department side, I talk to too many technicians from the different manufacturers and I simply dont want to get anywhere near a Chevy or a Dodge. Toyota on the other hand, is quietly taking a good share of the truck market in the United States, and just like their cars, their trucks are showing to be very dependable. Now, if you need to have a larger heavy duty truck, Toyota isnt in that market, yet. I would expect to see them there within the next 10 years though.
i had to vote for Ford...working in the oilfield i see lots of abuse/stress etc put on trucks(which 99% of them are F250 deisals)...for a truck that is running probably 10-15 hours a day w/out ever getting killed, traveling 100k miles in a year, etc....the F250 gives us very littel problems. badass trucks IMO
ford because its always been in my family brands favorite so thats always been our truck and it does the work superb. we have a V10 ford excursion and it pulls our bikes, snowmobiles, and camping trailer.
Question was most versatile. Not the toughest.
I voted for Chevy because of the Avalanche. I'd have to say it's the most versatile because it's 4 door, back folds down to make an 8' bed. The tonneau cover it comes with and the lockable boxes in the bed sides. As far as I know, no other truck on the market comes with all that.

While it is true the Avalanche's mid-gate feature is unique so far in the automotive industry... so is it's lack of aesthetic appeal. (In other words, it's Fugly) I.M.O.
LOL
The Nissan Titan has a nice external lockable storage compartment behind the rear wheels... The New Truck by Honda has a lockable trunk recessed into the bed of the truck... And many other trucks on the market are beginning to understand the need for additional storage and unique features to keep their edge in the market.
Ford (as far as I know) is the only line of trucks on the market today that offers as huge array of different sizes and designs of vehicles. They have available everything from small economy based trucks (ranger, sporttrak, etc.) to full size (f-150) and varying capacity trucks all the way into tractor-trailer rigs. (f-250, f-350, f-450, f-550, f-650, f-750, etc.)
All manufacturer's trucks are tough and versatile, and we each have our personal preference and experiences with these vehicles... just like ATV's,
tools, and just about everything else in this world.
Just run the piss out of whatever machine you own, and enjoy it!
I own a 2003 dodge 1500 quad cab. It has been great. Had to take the bed cover off because of trailer space. I drive it daily, it has room for 6 people comfortabl. It pulls both of our trailers.
I had the ford powerstroke and then I went to the chevy duramax.I prefer the chevy over ford in this case, but I know the older 7.3 p-strokes will out last my d-max anyday of the week.
I'm afraid my dad's about to "Cross-over" to your side of the fence Scrib... he told me today that he's seriously considering dumping his Powerstroke for a Duramax within the next year cause he wants 4wd and doesn't like the Ford 4wd system as well.
I told him it would be great to have a 4wd in the family... but would suck when I had to embarass him on the highway....LOL
