I myself and some of the guys I run with have them. I like mine, the only problem we've had with them is that the older ones weren't water proofed. Mine is waterproofed and I haven't had any problem with mine so far. For the money it's worth a try, you can pick up a good one off ebay for around $100, depending on the size you want.
After about four hours of back breaking digging trying to remove some huge shrubs I got the bright idea to use my 2,000 pound gorilla. First I tried parking my foremen against my curb, but I just kept pulling it up and over. Next I tied a log chain from the ball hitch of the foreman to the root, then ran the winch to the spring pack of my Ford ranger that was parked along side the curb. As the winch line tightened I heard the the truck tires chirping, the rear end of the truck slide side way's into the curb and I thought "this root has got to come out now". The winch cable kept coming in, but the root was not moving, so I stopped and walked up to the curb to try to figure out what was giving. That's when I observed both driver side wheels of my ranger about foot off the road. I then went out bought 40 feet of rope and ran it to a giant oak in my neighbors yard, just as the winch started to stall the root ripped right out. I also use the winch to snap the top half of a 18 foot sycamore tree, that I also removed from my front yard.
I might as well tell the back story: My next door neighbors house got condemned from damage caused by tree roots to the basement, So I put every tree and bush in my yard on death row.

Just saw your problem with your winch. If it has not been resolved you call Guy at 763-545-8512 He can help you determine what part you need. Once you determine what part you need just call Tom at 763-545-8511 and we will get you taken care of.

i have a gorilla 3000 lbs winch. the steel cable not the rope. have yet to install it because the roller fairlead mount didn't come in the package should be gettin it in this week. from what i am told there newer ones are waterproof and very powerful. that is the one i got for my B-Day. looking forward to gettin it on
I just broke my selector nob on my gorilla this weekend. but after tearing apart some of my other warn winches which had junked out I found I could fix my gorilla using my warn selector nob. So far it seems to be the same or at least work for now.
i have had mine installed now for some time. glad too. lately i've ridin in stuff so bottomless it's pointless. i rarely go back there but if it haden't been for that winch at times i would have prop had to leave it there. cause there ain't no way to get a truck or tractor down there. bout 200 yards from the trail and thats barely big enough for a rhino.
never had any probs they are waterproof or atleast i haven't had any electrical probs yet. pulls like a charm. even at the point when the winch is under the mud too! lol
i broke the drum on my 3000# on the second pull. gorilla is sending me everything but the motor to repair it. also. when i first got it i took it apart to grease the gears, and found a pretty good size metal sliver stuck between the gasket and the housing. emailed them with what i had found for future reference.
i had to use the winch one more time after breaking the drum, and the motor was pretty warm. is this common? all three winching took place in about 15 minutes.
i was supposed to get my parts today, because i am leaving for a ride tomorrow morning that requires all 4 wheelers have 4 wheel drive, and a winch. looks like i will be piggy backing with somebody if they inspect my winch.
i told the girl from gorilla that i was leaving this tuesday morning for this ride. had she told me i wasn't going to get my parts i could have borrowed a friends, maybe.. i installed 2-55 watt driving lights for the night rides. all for not i guess.
i hate it when things get screwed up that are out of my control
UPDATE.
called today to check and see where my parts were, and they didn't ship them for some unknown reason. then the person on the phone was going to charge me for shipping, not so i said, and asked about the return policy.
they thought they put me on hold, but i could hear the conversation they were having with their superior, and then they came back and said they thought the winch was a year old , and it was a mistake, there will be no charge for the shipping.
at this point, i am not very impressed with this organization. i am going to give this winch one more shot, and if it fails, i'll box it up and send it back.
if the chinese ever get the quality of the japanese, what do you think will happen the economy?.
alright. ups arrived this evening with my replacement drum. let me back up a bit. i had to call gorilla last friday to tell them the plastic gear housing had bits of plastic and metal in it from the broken drum, and to send me one of those as well, and i took the time to apologize to the guy on the phone for being a real horses a++ the first time i talked to him. anyway.
when i opened the box of parts a minute ago, i didn't find one drum, not two drums, but three drums, all with cable. WOW. i'll install everthing tuesday when i get the plastic gear assm. when i get this thing put back together i am going to put it threw a work out wen. supposed to go to the mountains next weekend, and it will for sure be put to work.
since my problem i have scoured the net looking for anything on gorilla. so far, there is more positive than negative. all issues are resolved one way , or another, even with people who have had their winches more than a few months, unless they are in the same boat as me. i have had this winch going on a month, and it has been on my foreman 1 day.
i've run into some issues with mine today. since i haven't been ridn i figured now is the time to do some major overhaul on my quad.
i figured it would be time to clean the cable of any debris and mud as well as get it spooled up tight and right. well i went to losen up the slack by the roker switch before i disengaged to winch and all i heard when i hit the switch was a clcik from my contrator and nothin happened. so i figured the winch mite have been binded up. so i went to disengage the spoll and pulled the cable all the way out. when i went to bring it back in the clutch wouldn't reengage. the knob spun freely and the drum would spin freely as well. so corect me if i'm wrong but i beleive i may have burn the motor and broken the clutch. dose this make sense or am i not makin any sense.
dad said we're gonna have to send it back to gorilla to get it worked on. sense it is covered under warranty i shouldn't have any prob with that i'm just tryin to figure out exactly what broke. any suggestions (not tryin to sound like a novice but i am still pretty new to how winches work and there mechanics inside)
yea, call tom. i don't know how he is linked to this company, but apparently the buck stops with him, mean he has some major pull.
after having mine torn apart, i am going to guess the selector knob is broken some how. these winches are a snap to repair.

got my parts from gorilla yesterday, and put the winch back together. went out to the same hill i broke it on, and winched up and down it, 8 times, using about 40 ft.of the cable. no problems. i had to winch out of the creek, so i winched up, and down it, 4 times no problem. all this winching took place in about 20 minutes. the motor was hot, but not hot enough you couldn't keep your hand on it. both these hills are steep enough you can't ride up them, well the first one you can, if you can get a really good running start. anyway, will do more testing this weekend. also, all these pulls were straight line, no block and tackle were used.
I was curious to know if anybody has a gorilla winch's or heard anything about them
Thanks,
Brian
Brian im fairly new here but i bought a gorrilla 3000lb thinking i could save a dime. When i recieved the wench i was not to happy, just by looking at it i could see the quality was'nt there the wiring was cheap and every zip tie i used snapped.I still installed it,it draws to power from my battery.I don't like putting down any product, all i can say is you get what you pay for.Good luck and spend a little more.
