This place sounds like it would be a blast...We are thinking about going in 2007 as it is around 900 miles from us. I need to find out more about the surrounding facilities first though.
Thanks gagoosebuster for giving us the thumbsup

Here is some additional information about Coal Creek ATV if anyone is interested:

The Coal Creek OHV Area is 72,000 acres of off road fun, located in Oliver Springs, Tennessee. Hundreds of off-roaders can be found every weekend enjoying the trails. The trails are open to everyone and just about any type of vehicle. ATV's, motorcycles, Jeeps, buggies and trucks all enjoy some of the best off-roading in the country each weekend. The property is privately owned by The Coal Creek Company.

Trail information
  • Trails range from gravel roads to extreme mountainous terrain. Easy trails include gravel roads and hard packed clay trails with few if any challenges.
  • Most trails are rated "moderate" and include mud, small rocks and small hill climbs. The more "difficult" rated trails will include off cambers, tougher hill climbs, rocks, mud and should only be attempted by experienced riders.
  • There are over 160+ miles of trails now open in the area. All trails are marked with a trail number, degree of difficulty and vehicles allowed on the trail. Some trails are restricted to ATV and Motorcycle use only.
  • There are plenty of different trails for all types of vehicles and adrenaline levels. There is also beautiful mountain scenery around every corner.
  • To access the OHV area you are required to have a Land Use Permit. Each person entering the area, regardless of age or activity must possess a land use permit while using the OHV area.

Some friends of mine rode there a while back. Get with mightymikeheadman with the soggybottomboyz or the windrockwarriors. This guy knows this place like the back of his hand.

I know the feeling... I'm self-employed and right now have no help, so I'm burnin the candle at both ends.

We've missed alot of good rides this year, some due to finance, some due to lack of time cause of work, and some because it was just plain ole too darn hot to enjoy yourself.

The 100+ degree heat here along with the exceedingly dry weather pattern has rendered most of our places to ride miserable to say the least, and with the burn bans in effect in most of the state not being able to have a campfire to sit around and tell lies makes it even worse.

We have a big trip planned (the wife and I) for Thanksgiving... hopefully that will pan out and it'll be COLD!!!!!

Ride Safe,

Chuck

we have a house up on the lake (watts bar, tennessee river) so coal creek is only 30 minutes from my lake house. its great riding but the towns around there are very small with rinky dink hotels. so dont be looking forward to any nice ammenities in the hotel department. if anybody needs any more info about the place or the area shoot me an email and i will tell you all i can and get any info you need! if anybody is heading up there let me know i will meet you there and go ride!!

There is a very nice hotel about 15 minutes from the place. Double Tree hotel in Oak Ridge. We went up for the Spring Jam and that place is AWESOME. The mud bog was a joke, as were the competitions. But as far as a place to ride, nothing even comes close. Just a note, do not bring mud tires. That place has so many rocks and hills, but very little in mud. It is a different environment totally. Some of the trails I wouldn't even attempt to walk. There are some bad places for sure. The helicopter took people off the mountain everyday. BRING A HELMET. But go, it is a blast.

I could not imagine a better place to ride in the world. It is huge, great views, and cheap. You could ride for weeks and not see everything.
