Lake McClellan OHV Trails

"The Pit" at the south end of the Lake McClellan Recreation Area is a major trailhead for OHV users. This area is considered the prime riding area within the Texas Panhandle. While OHV use is NOT allowed within the campgrounds, there is an extensive trail system that can be accessed from "the Pit". You must register your OHV at the store and obtain a permit and copy of the rules of use for all OHV operators before unloading your OHV. OHV operations is limited to dirt bikes, three and four wheelers, no trucks, cars or SUVs are allowed on the trails.

CAMPING:
You may reserve campsites on the West side of the lake. The campgrounds on the East side are on a first come, first served basis. Two vehicles are allowed per site. Each campsites contains a picnic table, barbecue and fire ring.
Family Campsite $10 - $18 per site, per night
Group campsite $75 - $135 per site, per night
Day Use $5 per vehicle
Boat $5 per day
OHV Vehicle $3 per day

Reservations must be made at least 4 days in advance.

SERVICES & FACILITIES:
Lake McClellan provides an RV dump station, a parking area for fishermen, boat launch, flush toilets, potable water, and camp store.

* All Terrain Vehicle trailhead nearby
* Nature Trail
* Wildlife Viewing

DIRECTIONS:
Lake McClellan is approximately 50 miles east of Amarillo, Texas. Take Interstate 40 east to exit #128 and proceed three miles north to the campground entrance.

I don't think they have opened back up after the fires last year. They are still removing burned up trees. The place is coming back nicely.
