| 01 recon not getting enough air I'm really at a loss here. My nephews 01 Recon isn't getting enough air when the air box lid is on. It has 1 1/2 snorkle run up to the front. Some reason its not pulling enough air through the pipe.
It has been snorkled about 2 months now. Ran great up till day before yesterday. My brouther was on it and it suddenly lost all power. I can take the lid off the airbox and it runs fine. Put the lid back on and it will cut out and die when you give it gas while in gear.
I ran a plumbers snake through the pipe 3 times and there is nothing in the pipe at all. So there is nothing there restricting the air flow.
Any Ideas as to why it worked great for about 2 months and all of sudden won't run unless the airbox lid is off. (This is with or without the Air Filter on it)
Thx. |

| I would run 2 inch pipe on it if it was mine.
Its probably flooding itself out cause its pulling too hard for air...not sure why it would do it all of a sudden like that though. |

| YOU MIGHT CHECK YOUR VENT LINES AT MAKE SURE THEY AREN'T CLOGGED UP. THAT WILL ROB THE POWER FROM THE BIKE. |

I didn't run the vent lines into the snorkle yet. I left the where they were. I'll check to see if they are stopped up.
Just seemed weird that the thing ran excellant and my brother said my nephew rode the hell out of it since I did that. He was even riding it the day before my brother got on it and it was doing just fine.
I'll check out those vent lines right now. |

| Vent lines seem to be fine. Didn't find anything stopped up.
ONe thing though. Why would it need a 2" pipe? The factory snorkle is 1 1/2 and has a 3/4" hole. (Just curious)
I took the snorkle off of it and it still does it when the top is on the airbox.
So it seems that he carb/engine isn't pulling enough air. I had the carb off the other day it was good except one jet. Cleaned it up. I just took it back off and everything is still good.
So I'm very puzzled... |

So I'm very puzzled... | More air....more power. plus it should be a longer with more bends than the factory snorkel...correct? If your going deep with it you need to fun up your front & rear diff vent lines.....your carb vent line. any vent line on it...plus put dielectric grease on every electrical connection and fuses. and seal your air box lid with RTV silicone. |

| Longer pipe will need to be bigger pipe to offset the restance of drawing the air in..The only thing left to me is that possible the lid tothe air box was loose and when you checked it you snapped it down causing the air flow restriction. |

| Thanks guys. I'll look more into this tomorrow. Another guy said it may be the diaphram on top of the carb has a small hole. I checked it the other day, but didn't look really close for a small hole.
He's not supposed to take it deep. This was put on due to my sons getting full of water a few months back and we weren't in deep water then either. My sons has teh same snorkle and it runs fine, thats why I was wondering about the size of the pipe.
I cut the snorkle yesterday and only had 3-4"'s of pipe coming out of the air box and it still did it. Exact same thing.
Will check back in when I get to check it out some more. |
