Is the belt snapping and breaking or is it burning up and breaking? Also is it wearing on either side of the belt that you've noticed? Finally, what kind of terrain are you riding on (in deep thick mud or difficult terrain) and with what size tires?

*** In my opinion, with only a month old bike and to have this problem happen twice, I would return it to the dealer and have them take care of the problem. You pay way to much money for the bike to have problems within a month. And keep complaining until it's fixed. ***

Well the problem with the dealership is that I'm an 18 year old female and when I go in there to tell 'em whats wrong they try to BS me into thinkin I've done something wrong. Which probably, I have. But not the point.

What happens is it'll start makin that poppin sound when you rev it up in neutral... and when you take off it'll jerk and shake and you can hear some clickin up in there somewhere. Last time it happened they showed me the belt and it was worn on the side.

I've been ridin it in some DEEP mud and through the creek which I think may be my problem. I was under the impression for some reason when I bought the 4 wheeler that it would be shaft drive... but it's belt driven... which blew my mind.

But anyway, I will be getting a new one if they refuse to keep fixin it... THEY AIN'T NEVER SEEN A COUNTRY GIRL GET MAD YET!!

Thanks for all of the advice.

1. Never go through "DEEP mud" in high range.

High range will burn a belt and tear it to shreds faster than anything I know.

2. Take a guy with you to the dealer who's a hard-ass.

When they see a guy present alot of times they'll shut the hell up and fix it. Which they should seeing as it's a new machine.

3. If it's blowing belts and making noises this early... the tranny is out of alignment... which means that the pulley that the belt rides on is "out of whack" and is eating the belt. This is most obvious when the machine is in neutral (and RPM's are at their highest when revving the engine).

4. 3 times and they are out. Lemon law (at least in the state of Texas) states that any machine (within a certain time frame... usually 1 year) that is brought in more than 3 times for the same malfunction or defect and isn't resolved to your satisfaction must either be bought back... or replaced in full by the seller.

DON'T FUDGE ON THIS. Tell em like it is... and mention attorneys... THEY HATE THAT.

$7,000.00 for a FREAKIN QUAD is REDICULOUS in the first place.... for it to break within the first year (let alone in the first month) is insane... the only thing more insane than it breaking is the fact that they don't want to fix it and keep a customer happy.

Kawi customer service overall has left me "less than satisfied" I love my Brute... but the people who sold it to me... and the people who service it.... SUCK.

Good luck, and let us know how it goes.

Welcome to the site.

Ride Safe,

Chuck

Thanks Chuck. Lol, classy and meaningful usually isn't my style with this kind of thing either so don't worry.

I kind of just wanted to have an idea of what might be going on before I get down there you know? And my boyfriend will be with me, so the having a male present thing is taken care of.

And yes it is ridiculous for the belt to have broken twice in a month. And truth be known, they didn't fix it right the first time it broke.

So hopefully they will fix it right this time.

Thanks again,

Erin

I agree, we don't get as much respect in the off-road or vehicle industry....so we have to keep reminding everyone that we do know things to and we're getting stronger every day.

Worn on the side....At that point, they should have checked the transmission alignment. Be sure to point that out to them. Any time a machine is making that much noise within a month of purchasing, it's got to be more than what they think you are doing to it. Most dealers will automatically think it's something the owner has done whether it's a man or a woman.

Just FYI....most of the time, riders burn up their belts when running in deep mud, and they have the ATV in high gear. When the rider tries to back out of that situation the belt may fail. Most reverse gears are geared to high. The thick mud and high gear are not a good combination for any ATV. When like this, the rider may or may not be heavy on the throttle, in any case could put a major strain on the transmission and belt. The belt will eventually smoke and break or fail.

AMEN to that. A little rant is sometimes what it takes to get our point across, so give'em what for..... Good luck and keep me posted on your progress.

If you want it next to your username (called an avatar), go to User CP (towards the top), then click Edit Avatar.
If you want it to dispaly under featured photos, go to the Gallery, then "upload photos" (toward the right hand side) and fill in the appropriate spaces. If you want your photos to randomly display under featured photos, use category "member galleries" and do not put them in an album.

Please PM me if you need any help.

Nice looking bike! You ought to put some pics up in the gallery of it and the places you ride, we'd love to see them. Brutes are a very popular bike and their pictures always get noticed

By the way, to the site and glad to have you aboard!

Sorry im late guys/girls.

If you are going to to be doing a lot of mudding then I would suggest a clutch kit.Even though you have 27's,when in deep mud that will put more stress on your belt. The more stress on your belt the more heat it will produce, which is the killer for the belt.I would only get the outlaw kit and not the extreme kit.If I remember correctly the outlaw kit has a pink primary with an almond secondary spring and 54 gram weights. That will be plenty for you unless you go to 29's.

Also as said above,do not play in deep mud or water in high range.A good rule of thumb is if you are going to be under 12-15mph then run low range if you are on the trails. If you are out on a road going that slow you will be fine in high range, but the on trails you are better of in low.

Also if the dealer fixes your bike, ask them what your belt deflection was set at,it should be around 22-25mm,that will make the belt last alot longer also.

I run a very tight belt in my brute,I have 29's and the rest of the works done on my bike and have never burnt the belt(knock on wood). As long as your belt is set right, you wont have any problems with it.

Good luck and hope you enjoy the bike

I want to say the regular outlaw kit is around $100.They are very easy to install but you will need a primary clutch puller, you can order that from Highlifter also for around $35

The dealer you purchased your Kawi from should have instructed you on riding an ATV with the belt/clutch/transmission. Your ATV is shaft drive; the belt issue is the clutch/transmission. This is the same set-up in a snowmobile and care is needed so the belt doesn't burn. Call Kawasaki Customer Service and complain about your problem. Usually the dealer will treat you right and fix the problem after the manufacturer "shakes them up". Good luck. Jerry, Shingletown,CA

Does anyone know if there is a difference in the transmissions on a 750, 650 or a 360?
I know the clutch cover is different but are the internals different?
Curious cause Im looking at a 360 but I want durability and if its the same tranny as for the big boys I know it should carry my big azz...

Well ya'll I dropped my 4 wheeler off at the dealer today. As expected, he was rude. His exact words were "You mean you burnt it up again?"

Lol I said "Yep now you get to fix it, I love warranties..." He doesn't like me.

But anyway, let's hope it doesn't take 'em too long cause I'm already missin out on some major muddin!!!

The first words out of my mouth would have been. Now go fix my bike. Who cares as long as it is under warranty and is being paid for. BTW hope he gets it back to ya soon. I hate to wait to ride.
