I have a 2000 suzuki lta 500 Qaud master and need some info on the belt.
Does anyone know how much play there should be in the belt. I have about 3/8" of play in mine. The belt has never slipped but it has a loud humming in the belt housing. I am thinking that it just needs to be cleaned out, because it is caked with dried mud and it is covering the bearings in the case cover. If anyone knows how much play there should be in the belt let me know because if I have to much or if I am close I want to change the belt while I have it pulled apart.

Also has anyone changed the belt before, and if so are there any tips you would give for this job.

I am not sure on a suzuki belt but I will try and find out for you.As far as the humming noise, that vey well could be the bearings in there are full of mud like you said.Clean them very well with brake cleaner and put some good water proof grease back in them.

Thanks for the help scribner. I have a service manual on the way for that bike. It should answer any other questions I have. I also contacted the dealer and they said the play I have in my belt is good.

Yes you do want some play but not to much or it will slip. Also if the belt is to tight it will cause the bike to creep when in gear and also wear out your clutch sheaves.I know on a brute the perfect amount of free play is around 25mm of up and down movement
