Can anyone help me with an electrical problem on a '00 scrambler 90? Specifically, I need to know which wires coming off the stator are hot. I have one that pulses but I suspect that there should be one that is constantly hot. Maybe the white one? Any help would be much appreciated. I need this thing up and running by Christmas.
thanks,
Craig

What kind of ignition problem are you having? I don't know which wire would be the power wire, haven't worked with that bike and haven't had ignition problems with an ATV that I can remember, but maybe some more information will help with some ideas.

Does the bike have headlights? If it does then your stator will have two separate circuits. One will be for the spark and the other will be for the headlights.I have no clue what which wires will be for what though on that bike.

What is the bike doing?

There is no fire at the plug. There is pulse fire to the coil but I thought that it was probably just a trigger. The bike ran without a battery in it so it has to have some form of constant voltage coming off the stator, doesn't it? Also, the pulse fire going into the coil seems very weak.

If your stator has 4 wires coming out of it then only 2 at a time will have a circiut between them.If you have an ohm meter then you can check with that.

Yes if it did run without a battery then it has an ac/dc rectifier somewhere on the bike.

If the stator checks good then I would start looking at the ac/dc rectifier.I have heard of them going bad on polaris's before and giving trouble.

My brother has a sportsman 90 for his g/f's son.It has intermitent spark right now also,so we are also trying to figure it out.

BTW..is this a 2 stroke or a 4 stroke atv?

This one is a two stroke. It doesn't have lights.

A 2 stroke doesn't have to have a battery to run,it relies on the stator and the rectifier to make the voltage. When you said i did run off a battery that is what made me think to ask you that.

OK..There are a couple of things that can cause this then. The stator could have a crack in one of the coils making it pulse like that, the rectifier could be bad or it could also have a bad ground somewhere.

Get an ohm meter if you don't have one and ohm the wires coming out of the stator,if the bike has a kick start or a pull start, roll the motor over slow to see if the readings change. If the meter goes low at one point then a coil might be cracked on the stator.

I'm kinda just throwing ideas out here to be honest with you,but I have had lots of banshees and they are 2 stroke also and I have had to check for problems like this before.
