Unhappy Kawasaki Lakota carburetor problem

I have a Kawasaki Lakota 300. I can only get it to run when I tape off the air intake. If I try to give it gas with out the intake blocked the motor bogs and stalls. I have removed the carb. many times and cleaned all jets and passages. I have set the float to the proper level and tried increasing and decreasing level. Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks, Ray

Lots of ideas runnin through my head right now (I AM NOT A CARB EXPERT BY ANY MEANS!)

Torn intake boot?
Stuck Choke?

If the motor won't run without the intake blocked... it means it's pulling air from somewhere it shouldn't be. Ideally, if the intake is blocked it should only run momentarily... just long enough to burn off what little oxygen is in the intake system.

It if runs better blocked than open... sounds as if the motor is gathering air from a source other than where it should be.

Once again.. I am no expert... but sounds odd to me.

Ride Safe,

Chuck

Carb problem

I should have been more specific. I am blocking the air tube in front of the handle bars. It has the air filter system still installed.

Sounds like you have an air leak somewhere.Check your boot between the carb and the motor, sounds like it has a crack in it and it is causing the bike to be very lean. When you tape it off,you are making the bike richer and that is why it will run like that

I sprayed starting fluid all around the boot and the carb and no rpm increase. I don't believe the boot is cracked. The vacuum slide is working. I am just stuck. Any other options?

I had the same problem with my Rancher, come to find out the choke was stuck not on the cable but in the carb itself.

Just my 2 cents worth

Check the fuel supply if you have the air you need and it seems like too much maybe you need to add gas......but i'm not a carb expert either check the fuel shut off valve and the fuel line for kinks. How does it idle?? I'm having similar probs with my 87 honda 200 SX It idles fine but under full throttle it surges / bogs like a rev limiter. It has the old rusty tank problem and I have to keep cleaning the tank. Try pulling the fuel line and turning on the shut off valve you should have more than just a dribble. should be a pretty good stream.

Here is another possibility, Is the gas line kinked? Possible clogged gas filter? Now the BIGGIE, is the gas tank Vented? Possibly smoe forein matter in the gas tank. Hope this may help, Ken

Also check to make sure that you have a good spark. An engine needs a good hot spark to keep it going. A new plug would be worth the investment. Check the plug wire. Electricity will want to take the easiest path, and this could solve your anomaly. Ken
