Eiger Carb Questions...

Just purchased a new 06 Eiger and need a little help.

Finally managed to get some free time to ride my new bike the other day and had a few problems. Ran fine for the first 10 miles or so, besides a little backfire in the mid ranges, then started running really lean. I had to baby the throttle to get it moving or it would bog down. Ran better with the choke on so I am sure it was not getting the fuel it needed. So I checked everything I know...the vent tubes, jets, air...all seemed normal. The only thing I am not sure of is proper fuel flow. When I switch the fuel selector to PRI, the fuel barely comes out?? Should this be a free flow in this position? And is it possible to have trash in the selector?

On a different note, while I have the carb out I want to rejet the carb. Should I simply swap the jets or install a jet kit so I will have more adjustment? I looked at a few kits and it seems they all want to go leaner on the main but richer on the mid sections. Most I see on the forum go richer on the main? Advice or feedback from someone who has played around with this or has a jet kit would be a help. If a jet kit...any brand better? And if I should just throw some jets in, any advice on a good size to start with?

Oh by the way, it has a KEIHIN 32 mm CVK carb. Not my first choice of carbs...any one swapped for another??

Thanks for the information, it will be a great help!!

I have never understood Suzuki's way of use on the valve myself. From my understanding the PRI is for priming the carb, not sure why it would need priming on that type of carb but that is what I have heard.

As far as the problem,if the bike has been sitting awhile it could have some old fuel stuck in one of your fuel circuits.Use an air compressor if possible and blow through all the passages in the carb.If you dont have a compressor use some carb cleaner and let it soak in it.

If you are going to jet it I would suggest a jet kit.It will give you alot more fine tuning ability. On a Dyno Jet kit the numbers wont be the same as factory size jets. The jets that come with the kit will flow more fuel than the same size jet as factory.I have always used Dyno Jet kits, never had a problem with them and they are usually very close on the jetting in the instructions.

I have a 07 eiger and its a fun ride for the money.
That said i have seen this problem and all i did was follow the book.
The fuel valve in pri and the choke on for a few minutes took care of lack of acceleration response.Switch the valve back to run after a few minutes.Do not run the tank low on fuel. You will not see a full stream of fuel running out of the gas line it has to be pulled by the carb.As for backfiring i had this issue as well.Valve adjustment at the dealer and it has run over 500 miles with out any trouble.
