Kawasaki Bayou 220

I hope this is the right spot for this thread.

ok well my Kawasaki Bayou 220 is not shifting right, it has 5 gears, so i shift it all the way up to the fifth gear but it's not really on the fifth gear it feels like it's only on the 3rd gear, i have no clue what the problem is, i tried shifting it up again and the pedal only went halfway up like it was already on the fifth gear, anyone have any ideas how to fix this?

First - Make sure there's nothing bent in the shift lever or a stick hung up (anything that would externally prevent the pedal from moving freely)

Second - Sometimes after sitting up for a while the "semi-automatic" bikes shifters will become somewhat "froze-up" and take shifting up and down several times to free up. Try starting the bike, let it warm up, and then (while sitting still) shift through the gears... might be a clutch issue.

Third, be sure to check the clutch housing for dents which might be the culprit... and check your oil level to ensure proper lubrication.

Hope it's sumthin simple! Let us know.

Ride Safe,

Chuck

i guess it has been getting worse, well it started to not shift up when i wanted it to so i would shift all the way down to neutral and it would be fine now i tried and it doesn't work it won't shift up anymore from the 3rd gear, like i said originally that i pull the pedal up 5 times ( theres 5 gears) but it only feels like it's on the 3rd gear. we are gonna get a new oil filter and an oil change, dunno if that will help but it needs it anyway.

Sounds like something in the tranny is either broke or hung up.Behind the clutch there is a shift star, that could be bad and not letting it go through the gears like it should

how long has it been since you changed the oil, you might want to change the oil if it's been awhile
