stripping down a 1985 trx250 wiring to bare basics

What wiring does my trx250 need in order to have spark. I want to strip it down to the bare ignition wiring only. I will install a basic "spark to ground" strap off the plug for a kill switch. I have a wiring diagram. Can anyone tell me how to isolate the ignition wiring only. I don't even want an ignition switch, just kick it and go. It would be much appreciated. My local dealers (2) seem to be completely unable to answer this question. Or unwilling.

You will need a ohm meter to do this. There are only 2 main wires coming off your key that will run the bike, the other wires are tied into the lights and kill switch.I dont know what color the wires are but you can use an ohm meter to find out which pair has a circuit between them when the key is on.Find out what 2 are hot and you can tie them 2 together. You can run your tether cord off your coil to shut the bike off.All of the wires feeding the lights can be removed out of the harness.Look at what color the wires are coming from your headlights and tail light and you can trace them back to the stator or where ever they come from and do away with them.Your stator also has 2 seperate circuits, one side is for your headlights and the other side is for your ignition. The wires for your headlights will also be traced to there. The best way to do this is to take off all the factory tape on all the wiring harnesess and start from scratch.Take your time and trace all the wires and write down where they go so if you have to look back at something you will know where the wire went.If the bike doesnt have an electric start then you only need 2 wires to run it really,if it does have a battery then you will have a few more for the ac/dc recifier. If it doesnt have one,you will have a couple of wires coming from the cdi box to the stator and them from the stator to the coil.

I do this to all my banshee's also, makes it much cleaner looking and does away with alot of electrical headaches down the road.Just remember to write down what color wire went to where and you shouldnt have any trouble doing this and making it right.

Hope this helps,I dont know the colors of the wires on your bike or I could tell you what you need just to run it.Good Luck
