87 honda TRX200SX

Okay been fighting with this one a while.. I rebuilt the engine. I know I know Don't even say it...After rebuilding with slightly more compression, adjusting the valves the carb ect. I then rebuilt the carb. I still get less power than before the rebuild. I have adjusted the carb moved the needle richer and leaner with no real change. The last expert I talked to suggested checking the timing gears. The Clymer manual sais to line up the crank case mark then set the cam gear "striaght up". my question is, What is "Straight up"? in line with the cylinder bore which is perpendicular to the top of the cylinder head. Or is "striaght up" perpendicular to the crank case. And no they are not the same.

So tell Me......On the Big Timing gear attached to the cam, Straight up inline with the cylinder or the ground?? If I remember my 125 your cylinder head runs almost horizontal Yours is probably totaly different. But I really appreciat the feed back

there should be a half circle or a notch on the headthat you can see when you pull the cam cover off. it is slytly above the the cam sprocket. there is a dot on the cam shaft that you have to aline with it if i can get my scaner working i will put a page up that tells you about it
