Honda 05 rancher AT hondamatic trans

I have a honda at that will not work in reverse. Symptoms are that display goes blank and will not show gear position, runs ok at idle but will not rev stumbles and sputters much like a polaris without the reverse button pushed. the foreward gears will not show until the display is reset by truning on and off the ignition. sounds electrical but where to start ?

If I can remember right there is a sensor on your front case that will cause this.Its down near the bottom of your case by your driveshaft.I chased this down on a Foreman ES for ahwile.
