I have a question about our new Eiger 400 4X4. While riding a bit today I noticed a rattle in the what seemed like the top end. I would guess its the valves. It kinda sounds like a car when it is detonating. The dealer said that it is normal but i don't know for sure if they even rode it to listen to it. It happens pretty much at all throttle positions but mostly when accelerating through the gears. Make sense? I have searched the web and only one other person has complained about this as far as I know. Anyone have the same problem or have a guess?
Okay, now that I finally got to ride it a little, what kind of mods are people doing to the Eigers? I have looked for exhaust but only saw FMF? as the only pipe? Surely there has to be more companys making stuff for it. What other aftermarket parts are out there for this? I know it isn't a sport quad but I have problem trying to leave stuff alone. Thanks for the input guys!
To follow up, it appears to be loose valves. Supposedly they are set up loose from the factory because after a couple hundred miles they will tighten up (says tech) Still annoying as hell to listen to but seems to run fine.
Haven't found anything more than an FMF pipe and an air filter as far as performance.
Hey Bama, yeah. I have checked out RockyMountain and have thumbed through their book but didn't come up with too much. I may get a plow from them shortly, Bike bandit I will look at again as I haven't been there in a while. I guess I can't expect too much but would like to get some real world input on exhaust and such . Thanks for the reply.
The single best mod I have found is the Long Travel Suspention kit from Hebco. I gained 1.5" lift AND nearly 3" added articulation! The company is slow on communication, but I got my kit in good time. You can find it here: index
Sir I will bet you a six pack that your dealer does not know his elbow from his petilla. A new machine with loose valves would set off a red flare in my book. I can understand a possible loose timing chain but loose valves?Question, does this happen only when it is cold, or does this happen all the time. It MAY be loose valves but as the engine warms up (thermal dynamics) this should cause the Tappets to expand slightly. This could be a sign of a worn cam lobe. I would take it back to your knowledgeable dealer and raise hell.If it is what he suggests have him rectify the problem while the warante is still valid, Ken
