How safe are wheel spacers?

Still cant find any wheels for my 08 brute, but a man told me i could just run spacers and my problem was solved. Is he right and how safe and reliable are spacers?

as long as you use lock-tite and torque the spacers/adapters you should be o.k. they add like 1.5" to the axle width per spacer so about 3" more from outside wheel face to face that's something to think about when ordering wheels.

well i was looking at some itp alloys, 4/110 bolt pattern, 12x7 with 2+5 back space for the rear and 5+2 on the front... the highlifter site says they have rims that fit but every other shop i ask says they havent heard of yet.

yea the center hole has these for little tabs that rise about 1/4 in. off the hub, that is what everyone is telling me to have machined, or just machine the center hole of the rims to fit over the tabs.
