battery drain

I have a 2004 bombadier 4 wheeler. Shortly after we bought it (used) we started having problems with the battery draining, and then obviously not starting. We have replaced the battery and an electronic part after consulting the local atv shop. However the problem just seems to be getting worse, the battery will run for a while and as you are driving it will start backfiring and then die out. Now every time you want to start it we have to use a battery jumpstarter which usually works, but not always. This is a huge problem as i am snowed in and we use it to plow our driveway. Any ideas out there?

did you clean the battery connections? could be a dirty connector from the stator or a bad stator.

if it's not a maintenance free battery, does it have plenty of water/electrolyte in it?

I will be honest up front,I know nothing about a can am but will take a stab at this.As we know its not charging so start by looking at the ac/dc rectifier and the stator. The stator actually puts out the voltage but the ac/dc rectifier converts it to 12 volts. The way its backfiring kinda sounds like one of those problems to me.Try and find out if there is a way to check the voltage that both are putting out.

Also this could be caused by something as simple as a short in a wire somewhere causing it to ground out.Check any and all wires that run near the frame to make sure none of them hasnt been rubbed through the insulation and grounding out against the frame.
