Unhappy Polaris 500 4x4 rear axle removal

I have a polaris Sportsman 500 HO 4x4 with a torn rear CV boot. I need to take the axle out for cleaning and repacking but I cannot get the dern thing to come out of the gear box/ I have tried prying till my eyes popped out but I don't want to go any further for fear of damaging the box. Can someone tell me how these axles come out? IS there something that I am missing? If you could please help a redneck chick out it would be much appreciated. I sure do miss ridin!! HEEEEELLLLPPPPP!!!!

Redneck Valley Girl

PS>> I have a picture of the components in question if that would help.

Thanks for your time.

did you pull the cv boot down and out of the way? on all that i've seen once the boot is pulled down and the outer axle ends it should pull out unless the inner race is locked up. you might can tap the inner race with a punch and break it loose.

the axle is very easy to get out.take wheel and hub off .disconect the shock.spread upper and lower a arms then just push and pull on axle until it pops out of the differencial.its only held in with lock ring if you try to pry it you can tear bushings.put something under diffy to catch fluid
