quadsport won't start please help!

Hello everyone,
I need some help. I have a 1989 suzuki lt250 quadsport with some problems. The problem is (it is kick start only) when the motor is cold I can kick start it all day and it will not fire. If I pull start it for five feet it will start and runs great, and when warm will start on one kick. However if I let the motor cool down I am back to square one pull starting it. I had a guy tell me it sounds like an ignition coil, I'm not sure. Any help with this would be appreciated.

Thanks for the replies.

Had an XR200 that did the same thing (nearly broke my neck more than once trying to roll that thing down hills and drop the clutch to start it.

Replaced parts like crazy (coil in particular)

The only thing I could narrow it down to was the compression release (which was supposed to be automatic on my 200) Motor started great when warm, but when cold.... ya wanted to roll it off a cliff (into the lake)

Start with the plug (a better fire will help alot) and try higher octane fuel (drain it and throw a few gallons of super/premium in (what do ya have to lose?)

And if all else fails... shoot it and take a tax write-off... LOL

I ended up giving up on my 200 and giving it away. (that poor guy...lol)

Good luck, and let me know how it goes.

ignition or pick up coil could be possible causes. also could be any wiring (bad ground, etc) wiring and spark is fun to diagnose. good luck

I'm thinking more carb than electrical. Have you tried choking it? Pull the carb clean all the jets out, check your float level. If it runs fine and starts fine when warm I doubt it's electrical. But nothing is impossible.
