I posted this on the Honda area but maybe this is a better place to post it.

I have a 450S Foreman. A couple months ago I noticed when I was idling it was dumping fuel out the carb bowl overflow. I totally cleaned out the carb that seemed to fix that. Now tonight when I was doing some work on it I ran it for a few minutes and smelled gas. I took the seat off and opened the air box. It was almost up to the air filter with gas! The more it ran the more it poured in. I shut it down, got a jug and emptied the air box. The gas is darker than it should be, so I won't be re-using it.

But what would cause that? The floats don't have any holes in them (that I know of!) The needle is new, the jet is new. I haven't taken the carb apart again to look at it.

Thanks!

My problem is that I was working on it tonight and when I ran it, I had gasoline pouring into the airbox! It had to have been coming in through the air filter. This happened once before and I cleaned out the carb and put a new needle in it. The floats are fine, don't hold gas and move freely. I can't figure out what else to do! Anyone got any ideas?

Please email your thoughts to me at maxwell679@cox.net.

I'm at a loss on this one.... in order for gas to be pumping into the airbox there has to be a clogged vent, or mis-routed drain line... or a needle/float stuck somehow... but it shouldn't run if it is... wierd

The gas is likely dark from running out through the filter... you were right not to re-use it.

I would start from scratch checking all carb vents and drain lines for blockages... then go into the bowl and make sure the float moves freely and the needles don't have any scarring on them..... that's just odd.

Let us know how it turns out.

A small amount of B12 in the gas probly wouldn't hurt either.

Ride Safe,

Chuck

Your floats are prob set to high.Take the bowl off and adjust the tang on your floats.A general idea on how high they should be is level with the bottom of the carb with the bowl off.Set the carb upside down on a flat surface, then see where your floats are sitting, adjust to correct them.

A small adjustment goes along ways when you bend that tang,so be careful and not bend it to much or you will run the bike out of gas and that could cause engine damage.

Thumbs up

I don't know alot (im a girl) but it does sound like the float is stuck. Do you turn the gas off when not in use or when you trailer it?? Just my 2 cents.
